I have respect for Tim in the sense that he steps into the octagon (everyone who steps in there gets respect) and he is the UFC Heavyweight Champion (weak division or not, that's still an accomplishment). However he is a boring fighter to watch. He loves that belt too much and is afraid to take chances (however small) in an effort to finish iff a fight. By the 5th round in the Monson snooze-fest it was painfully obvious that Monson was:
a) Extremely tired
b) Not going to be able to take Tim to the ground
c) Not going to be able to do anything to Tim even if he got him on the ground

Tim needs to realize that he is an entertainer. People pay to see him fight. He is there to compete, but also to put on a show for the fans. If the fans don't like the show, they will stop coming. This is why Pride has the Yellow Card rules (Tim probably would have gotten 1 or 2 yellows in that fight, Monson too).

And last, just to beat that dead horse down some more, there are at least 5 heavyweights in Pride that would beat Tim. Fedor, CroCop, Barnett, Rodrigo Nog., and Hunt. Probably Kharitonov and Aleks too.

P.S. Yes I am a Pride nuthugger, but I love UFC too and recognize that they have great fighters... Just not at heavyweight.

He also draws in a lot of people though. I think Dana White knows this, which is why he got payed more than matt hughes for some reason, to fight.

When Tim fights (even if its boring) people are still gonna tune in the whole way through because they want to watch the fall of tim. Many people will watch his fights because they want to see his ass finally get beat, so for dana, peoples hatred towards tim is probably drawing him in a lot of watchers.

I hate this attitude. "You have to fight him before you can judge him." F*** that. If you don't want to hear people judging fighters, a forum is the wrong place to go. That's what we're here to do, is discuss fighters and give them the thumbs up or thumbs down. I don't think it's "cool" to hate on Sylvia, I just don't think he's done much to get the thumbs up!

There should be an OFFICIAL Lay off the Lay off Tim Sylvia thread. This is a discussion board. That means there is going to be different opinions on different topics. There just happens to be a majority of people on this board that just don't like Tim Sylvia for whatever reason. Oh and please, if I thought my little 140lb self could compete against him I would compete, but no I don't think I can.

YOu sound like some of the drunk ass fans who just want to see knock outs who were booing...you don't understand a strategic fight
What the **** are you talking about? How is that strategic? Two people afraid to get too close to each other, thats strategic alright.

Now tell me, since you know so much more than us drunk fans that don't understand MMA, in the Gracie vs Shamrock II, was that strategic? If I was in the audience, would I have the right to boo?

Tim is a piece of shit that took steroids. Like someone said he called out Jerome Le Banner and Fedor (who would both beat him with ease) and then he wouldn't fight either. There some very knowledgeable people on this forum, many of them fighters themselves, and they will all say that shit Tim pulls by being "overly cautious" is not strategic. And to call someone a drunk fan that does not understand a strategic fight because they want to see someone give some effort out there is just ignorant. I have never gave negative rep before, but with that dumbass comment, it seems like a good fit.

Big Tim is who he is. He's a big, dumb oaf who throws huge awkward strikes. It works for him, and he can't change who he is. He can't fight like Fedor, Nog, or Cro Cop. He's not a well rounded Sambo & Judo fighter. He's not a submission specialist. He's not a technical striker. Big Tim is oafish & big. This is who he is, and that's how he fights.

It's funny how people are blaming only Tim for the 3rd Arlovski fight & the Monson fight. Ugh, guys, you stop to think that maybe AA & Monson have a part in putting on these clunkers? I mean, atleast Big Tim showed that he does have a ground game.

Tim has had way too many fun fights to be called boring. yea, he had 2 pretty bad fights(Though the Monson fight was interesting), but the Cabbage, Ricco, & Telligman fights were exciting. Hell, the Cabbage fight alone should be enough to stop these boring arguments.
