Yeah, I thought Penn would be out for awhile due to his injury.

I can definitely see St. Pierre holding on to the title for quite some time. I am pretty sure Hughes' is still #1 contender after Serra because he has held the title for quite some time and is still considered to be one of the best (i.e. when Sylvia lost to Arlovski, he got an immediate rematch).

Penn would be a tough match for St. Pierre seeing as how the first fight goes ... but if Penn slacks off in his training, he could once again gas and lose. That poke in the eye did not help St. Pierre much either in the first round. >_>

I thought this was simply a rumor?

I recall reading that Penn is looking forward to fighting St. Pierre, Hughes, Sanchez, and all the other top welterweights after he recovers.

Its a rumor. It does seem that Penn is the only one who can take the title away. Vs anyone else, if GSP executes a well thought out plan, he's probably going to win(Not to say they have no shot at all). However if BJ comes fully prepared, it might be out of GSP's hands.

My Top 5

(0. Fedor)
1. Cro Cop
2. GSP
3. Mauricio RuA
4. Quinton Jackson
5. BJ Penn

Josh Koscheck is a WW right?

I think in a year or two, he might give GSP some trouble...

These pure athlete types are really something to see

I wanted Hughes to beat gsp but he did'nt, now with that said.mI just don't get this penn worship, maybe if he had Hughes or gsp's work ethic,he might be able to beat gsp....

so after viewing what gsp did and how he looked against hughes, I gotta go with gsp smokking and dominating penn if they meet and IMO penn has to fight a few guys before hughes or gsp matches first....

Penn is going to have to beat some fighters before he gets a title shot against GSP. I hope Hughes get an immediate title shot like Sylvia got against AA. I'm still a big Hughes fan and believe he can beat GSP in a rematch. Until that rematch happens I see GSP dominating the WW division cause he is a tremendous athlete and cannot be touched by any WW except Hughes. Penn could give him a fight but will gas out in the 2nd round like his fight with Hughes, then GSP will own his ass. I'm a Diego Sanchez fan and people say Sanchez would give GSP trouble but I don't see Sanchez getting the win over GSP, not right now.

I actually think that you are right on the money. I do see Sanchez and Koscheck as threat but in minimum a year if they are able to up their game by 50% then solid contender for the title they would become...As for Matt, he will need a new match plan and more tools, but hes strong enough and has the heart of a Lion. Penn is a big deception for me because he has all the talent in the world but needs to work at it....pass victories and raw talent doesn't cut it anymore...Matt saw it first hand!...the level of conditioning both mental and physical that GSP dysplayed as lifted the bar for all others..

As a GSP fan I wll always be affraid of a fluck loss against a Sera or somethin' you never know... (scary thoughts)

No offense but I dont think you have much knowledge on BJ Penn. People are saying he can beat GSP because when they fought GSP won a split decision and it was about as close as a decision could get. BJ was DOMINATING Matt Hughes before he dislocated his rib. Kameleon, how can you not acknowledge that BJ was hurt that fight. He didnt gas anyone wouldve done the same thing with a dislocated rib, theres nothing he could do. And dont even tell me Hughes caused it because he didnt. Matt Hughes got lucky plain and simple. BJ has a great shot at beating GSP if he's healthy, and hes the only one with a chance right now.
