While Diego is a very explosive, large lightweight in great shape, I find he is a little over-rated at times. Who has he beat? Florian (years ago), Kos (years ago), you could argue that Stevenson or Riggs are the best fighters he's defeated -- don't get me wrong, they're great competitors, but the way some go on about Sanchez is enough to make my stomach turn.
That being said, he'll still likely beat Guida. I want to see him fight Florian again so I can gauge how good Sanchez really is.

I'd like to see Guida win, I love his attitude, but I'm not sure he has the tools. Sanchez isn't exactly a lock to win this, but what does Guida do better? Sure isn't striking or BJJ. He could outwrestle Sanchez, but Diego is pretty strong for lightweight, and his cardio is good too.
I think Clay's only hope is to wear him down over 3 rounds and hope Diego gasses, because he will probably lose on his feet, and I don't know if he will be able to take Sanchez down often enough, or control him if he does.
I hope he can pull it off though, I never liked Sanchez much.

Guida wears guys out, that what he does. I dont think he is gonna be able to wear sanchez out. Diego is a lot bigger then guida and his cardio is just as good. I just dont see guida being able to hold diego down for any amount of time. I think diego wins by ud. Diego also has wins over karo and nick diaz, who i think are both a step above guida.

I see Diego in this sort of ''Limbo'' in that he's an excellent competitor, but aside from Stevenson(?), has no wins over a top 5er. I don't count his win against Florian as a top five because he wasn't the same then as now. Riggs is sweet, Karo is sweet, Diaz is sweet, But they're not top 5ers.
Diego is still a legit competitor, but I'm just keeping it in perspective. I think he'll be a dominant force at Lightweight but it's gonna take a couple more wins (at lightweight) until im completely sold with Diego.

WHEN they fight I will bet you all my credits that you will watch florian lose again. Also youdont consider them top 5er's....whats nick Diaz...seen him lately??? Plus you have to take into consideration where these guys were ranked at the time they fought and the fact that they have all improved...i love the point well florian is better now...and wha....diego got worse...he mangled Florian and will do it again........

I don't even like Florian, I would love to see him get mauled. Im sure Diego has improved but I think Florian may have improved a little more (based on versitility) -- doesn't mean he won't get mauled again. Had Diego have beaten Alves, I know they didn't fight, I would have been sold on him. All my point is, is that I want to see Diego beat, Florian, Penn, Maynard, or even Sherk, and he'll have proven himself at the lightweight division -- and by proven himself I mean worthy of a titleshot.
Ill try to explain what I mean objectively:
Florian has done more at lightweight than Diego at welterweight -- hence title contention status.
Regardless of who I favour, Florian or Sanchez, I still feel Sanchez needs a win over one of the fighters I mentioned above or like Griffin and Lauzon for instants.

My friend used to do strength/condit. with Diego in San Diego
He told me while Diego keeps the pace of his fights upbeat to basically overhwhelm opponents, he gets subbed easily in training by yellow belts and leaves himself open to alot of joint locks.
The Carpenter better brush up on some Bjj and stop trying to be The Undertaker....
