Did Forrest beg for mercy?
I'll start off by saying I'm a Forrest fan, so I'm not bashing him at all, just curious.
When Forrest was put on his back, he put his hands up in what looked to me like a "I want no more of you, Anderson Silva" moment. I guess it could be said that it was a weak attempt to defend himself, but I thought it was pretty obviously a "please stop" moment. What do you guys think?

Yup,
Seemed that way to me.
Only reasons I can think of are:
He quit. Out classed in minutes and wanted no more of it. However, never taken Forrest as a quitter.
His jaw really was bust up in the fight.

That's why I thought his jaw actually WAS broken, like he knew it and was expecting a further pounding and wanted to avoid a seriously bad injury. Fair play for Silva not pulling a Hendo and adding a little extra to his KO.

I think that is just how Forrest defends himself when he is unconscious. Look at his fights with Jardine and Rashad, when he was rocked, in both of those fights, he extends one arm in an instinctual attempt to defend himself.

Have you guys even heard the reports, his jaw wasn't broken. He just couldn't take the beating anymore. Forrest may seem tough to you, but to Silva, he's a three year old girl. When I used to do sparring in Muay Thai and I would go up against some bad-ass M.F., I too would try to buy time by falling to the ground or pretending I was KO'd standing. There is nothing more to it than that. Forrest, in my eyes, is no longer that Terry Funk-like fighter in the UFC.

I remember his hands coming up like that after each knockdown (blocking punches/pulling guard?), but I'm not absolutely sure.

Maybe self preservation instinct sometimes overrides pride. Any decent Ref was stopping the fight at that point anyway.

Not only were his hands waving Anderson off, but his head was shaking as if to say "no more." This actually showed how classy Anderson is. There were a good 2-3 seconds between the time Forrest went down and the ref stepped in. ANYONE ELSE in the UFC would have GnP'd Forrest and given him some extra punishment.

He knew he was done. But I dont really think putting your hand in the air equates to begging for mercy.

Yeah true but Forrest does tend to sprawl his fingers out and extend his arm when being punched on the ground... granted Silva wasn't on him yet, but he probably expected a little pound on the ground...
