Nate Marquardt: "I don't fear anything about him."

I'm really excited for this fight and I really think it could be 'fight of the night'. I hope Marquardt pulls it out but I respect Maia.

It's a battle of two really skilled guys and two really nice guys. Lately Nate has been fighting like he's in a video game or something. I don't see Maia pulling this one out, but who knows. All I know is it has the makings to be a great match-up.

I would fear his BJJ. There are not many people in mma who are more skilled in BJJ than Maia. With that being said, if Nate keeps the fight standing up I think he should beat Maia. Hoping for a great fight!

Nate can beat maia were ever he wants....he's sub defense and power would overwelm maia on the ground.....nate can stay on the ground for 3 rounds wit maia, not the smarts move, but he can do it.

maia can't stay on the feet with marquart for 3 rounds, and he can't take him down...so..

this is the easiest fight to call on the whole card imo.

maia is a teir under guys like okami, franklin, hendo, silva, and nate.

I only live by 3 rules: Eat Twat, Smoke Pot, and Smile Alot

Oh, like i said i think Nate will win, but Maia's BJJ is phenomenal. Nate said he doesnt fear any part of Maia's game but if i was him i would definitely worry a little bit about being tapped out by someone with ground skills like Maia. Nate will most likely over power him though so it probably wouldnt matter.

I may be tempting fate by saying this, but I think he can beat Maia on the ground, too.
Not likely by submission, of course, but possibly by GnP and at least by decision.
I think people will be surprised by how well Marquardt does here.

Jeremy Horn almost got Marquardt in an omoplata, and swept him. And Maia's BJJ is lightyears ahead of Horn's. If Nate takes this to the ground, he could quickly end up on his back or tapping out.

Embedded it for ya:

Quote:
"I started in the sport from the beginning with a goal to be a well-rounded fighter. I love mixed martial arts for everything is has to offer. I love the submissions, the knock outs, the kicks, punches and knees. I love take-downs and everything about it. My goal is to be the best in every area. Demian has won all his fights in the UFC via submission. That doesn't mean I'm scared of him in any area. I don't fear anything about him. I know he's great on the ground but I also know what I can do. To me, that's all that matters. It's no secret I'm going to keep it on the feet as much as possible. The more I can stay away from his strength the better for me but at the same time I'm not scared to take him down. When I get on top of him and punch him in the face, he's gonna be at a disadvantage no matter what position were in. These days I look at a fight as a title fight and every fight I'm going to put everything I am into that fight. I'm not looking past Demian Maia at all."

-Nate Marquardt says he's not scared of Demian Maia's jiu-jitsu and believes he has the skills to dictate the fight. Marquardt is riding a two fight win-streak and sports an impressive 28-8 record that dates back to early 1999. He's looking to get another shot at the 185 pound title and desires a rematch with Anderson Silva. In his first title shot at UFC 73, Marquardt lost to Silva via first round TKO. Marquardt has since won 3 of his last 4 fights, droping a controversial split decision to Thales Leites at UFC 85 and besting Jeremy Horn, Martin Kampmann, and Wilson Gouveia.

To keep his title shot aspirations alive, Marquardt will have to get past jiu-jitsu ace Demian Maia. Maia has won all 5 of his UFC bouts by submission and remains undefeated at 10-0.

I agree with this.

Nate Marquardt has been submitted by Genki Sudo (although it was near the start of his career), and Ricardo Almeida.

I'd say Demian Maia has better Jiu-Jitsu than both of these fighters, and could most likely finish the fight off with a submission if the fight is taken to the ground (which wouldn't be a good tactic for Marquardt, in my opinion).

Nate was last submitted in 2003.

The best MMA grappler Demian Maia has faced is Jason MacDonald, and took three rounds to put him away, even with Maia's phenomenal BJJ.

I would worry about his bjj. Maia is widely considered one of the the best if not the best grappler in all of mma.

With that being said Marquardt owns the stand up battle in this fight and i also believe that he has the wrestling skills to keep the fight standing. If he turns this into a fight that comes down to striking, Marquardt will take this fight no question.
