Stylistically, I don't think the Shogun from Pride (who I think WILL be showing up for the fight vs. Machida) could beat Machida. I think an experienced grappler with a good chin like Couture or Hendo would have the best chance, but even then I don't give them good odds.

Shoguns grappling isn't to bad, but I don't see him using it anyway.

At this point I am still pulling for Machida as the victor, but I would love to see Shogun rock Machida a little and make UFC fans sweat a little.

That would be great!!

I'm going to ask a question to those that keep talking about this "Shogun from Pride".

Why would the Shogun of Pride beat Machida?

The Shogun of Pride was a sloppy striker who had no head movement, who kept moving forward with a constant pace. This is the type of fighter Machida would absolutely crush.

What I'd be saying is "I hope I see a new and improved Shogun that has fixed the holes in his striking and cardio".

Looked sad against Coleman and beat Liddell who was on his last leg. Shogun will miss many of his strikes like everyone else who's fought Lyoto.
...He will get frustrated and become more aggressive, chase Machida and he will get caught. Now that Lyoto has become aggressive when he hurts you makes him even more dangerous. Whatever Shogun brings to the table, Machida will be ready for. Shogun will get KO'd...
I agree with everything besides the bolded. Before liddell/rua fight more than half were saying chuck via tko because shoguns "sloppy striking" plays right into chucks counter game. Now that he won..chuck is just a punching bag senior citizen to everyone. I remember people thinking chuck was back a little over a year and a half ago against wandy but thats besides the point.
Anything can happen but I dont see machida winning via tko/ko .. probably decision or subbing shogun if he gets gassed. Shogun has not been knocked out in 20 fights. Yeah i know machida stopped thiago and rashad. But neither of those fighters opponents combined match the depth of the strikers shogun has fought.

Machida is a great fighter but a year ago barely anyone noticed him..he beats an overrated thiago silva and rashad evans by KO and he goes from prospect to Fedor status. He has to defend his belt at least twice in devastating fashion to me before i write off everyone he faces.

Actually, hardcore fans have known Machida was championship material for quite a while.

I was more excited for Rashad/Machida then Shogun/Machida, but it's still a good fight. Machida should crush him...and I knew Machida would be champ for a long, long time as well.

Yeah but that's what he means i would imagine. Hardcore fans might have known about his talents, but the casual fans surley didn't. Now it's like, "OMFG MACHIDA BEST EVER ! ROFL SHOGUN BITCH TOTAL PWNAGE BY MACHIDA !"

I enjoyed watching Chuck, a counterpuncher, and I did and still do love watching Machida use this tactic, among everything else in his considerable arsenal.
