Gray Maynard's Performance

Although overall I was impressed with Gray's performance, I must say I was a little shocked. I don't know if I overrated Maynards hands but they seemed EXTREMLEY one dimensional; however still affective. I mean, was he accurate? Absolutely. Was he quick? Defininately. But I mean, He litereally utilized his right hand, to the head and body, and the occasional left hand.

What I'm saying is, all in all, Gray Maynard exectues what he knows almost flawlessly but it seems as though he doesn't know that much.

He needs to work on lateral movement, 3 (at least) punch combos, and LEG KICKS. He doesn't have to be the next Van Damme or anything but at least be able to kick enough to give him a little more length to his shortish frame.

His take down defense is phenomenal, literally couldn't be better, his take downs are excellent (best at LW bar none), and even his top game is decent BJJ-wise: just a little inexperienced.

I mean, he has potential to be the best light weight in the world considering he is the best wrestler at 155 lbs in the UFC, but at the same time if he doesn't expand his game, he will not stay undefeated; even with the good performance last neight, he looked very beatable.

By good I don't necessarily mean entertainment wise (although I was pretty entertained [to an extent] i like Gray) but he fought well against a top tier guy.

Gray didn't impress me a whole lot. BJ would destroy him.

Boring as hell, i dont see him getting a title shot any time soon until he can finish his opponents. very good fighter and probably top 3, but i cant stand watching him or anyone like him.

He is doing the right thing and will eventually incorperate those other aspects. I think in a year his boxing will be able to give BJ some problems he has been improving rapidly people talked about how much Kos was improving Maynard is lightyears ahead of him.

He looked good without really making a statement. The retarded judging sort of clouds the issue but it was really just his wrestling that won him the third round and the fight in the end.

On a side note did anyone see Arianny cheering for Roger in the third while Gray was laying on him.

maynard is going koscheck/sherk on us. But ho can blame him. Dana always says that all aspects of the game is a part of the sport and that he doesnt influate his fighters to fight a certain way . That is what he SAYS, but when Maynard was 8-0 prior to this fight and ends up fighting (not even a main event ) on a fight night then Dana goes indeed influate his fighters style. Get entertaining or we will stack you away as long as humanly possible.

This as well. Fighters like him, Stevenson, Griffin, Edgar, Sherk, etc are killing the LW division.

honestly i think part of it was just the fact that he was fighting roger and wanted to be extra carful. maybe he was a little intimidated so he just wanted to play it safe.

I thought Huerta looked great too and maybe more well-rounded than Grey, but not particularly better at anything.

Exactly. Huerta is no slouch, he's not top 5, but he is definately legit.
