You actually think that Diego could not beat Frank Triggs?
Come on, Diego may not be the best MMA fighter out there and you may not like him personally but you can't deny that the boy has skills...period

Lower Tier? Karo Parysian is one of the top ten welterweights of the world! Karo is not some nobody off the street!

But I would like to see Diego beat either Hughes or Penn before getting a title shot!

But, I agree that a PPV with GSP vs. Sanchez would bring in 'dem dollaz. On top of the fact that that I think Sanchez is the next natural choice for a title shot any way.
What I'm trying to say is that it's not the same for everyone, I mean if you really start to look at some of these title fights and see what fights preceded the title shots it's kinda funny.

No doubt about it. There's a business to run too, though...

Some of the choices may not have seemed to be the *best* choice, but there are few (if any) that were undeserved. It *is* possible for more than one person at a time to be qualified for a title fight, ya' know?

True, but there's really no set system for working up the ladder...I mean the TUF winner getting a title shot kinda shoots holes in that theory. Like I said in my original reponse this is no jab at any of the fighters, I'm sure in one form or another they were deserving, let's just say they did'nt all take the same path to get there.

Well the fact that he isn't in many PPV's doesn't mean anything. They put a LOT of terrible fighters in PPV's. I mean come on it's either PPV or UFN, thats pretty much all there is in UFC. Diego has beaten some tough fighters which most of the time he is the one everyone thinks is going to lose but everytime he proves them wrong. The only people above him are Penn, Hughes, and GSP. Who else do you think he needs to fight to get a title shot. He has 6 wins in a row in UFC. Penn is my second favorite fighter, but he has lost his last two fights and I don't think Diego should have to fight Matt to get a title shot. Doesn't really matter anyways since Matt/GSP3 is already confirmed early next year. That only leaves one person for a title shot and thats Diego. I think Karo, Riggs, Diaz and even Florian are extremely tough competitors. You can say what you want about Florian, but he did just get a title shot so he can't be all that bad lol. Put Diego up against the champ, if he wins then he just proved you wrong, if he loses, then put him up against Penn or Matt to see if he can hang with the big boys. A fight can go anyways and Diego has all the tools needed to win a fight.

I think Sanchez is a very tough fighter that would give Penn, GSP or Hughes a run for their money. I'd go as far as saying he could beat any of them, although I wouldn't say he'd be the favourite with any of them. Joe Riggs sucks ... the guy has never beaten anyone good in the UFC ... I can't believe they keep bringing him back, maybe because he's exciting

Riggs has beaten Doerksen & Diaz, so your "He hasn't beaten anyone good in the UFC" theory holds no merit.

However, I do agree with you that Diego will be a tough opponent for any of the big 3 WW's. He's just a vicious, never say die cardio freak. He just does not stop.

Diego interview excerpt(below) from UFC.com where he talks about fighting for the belt after Riggs.

Ive got a lot of respect for him (St. Pierre) and I look forward to challenging him one day in the future, but there are so many aspects of mixed martial arts Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and jiu-jitsu that I want to be able to practice and study these arts as much as possible before I feel Im 100% ready to fight for the title and defend it as many times as possible, said Sanchez. But if I win this fight against Riggs, I would look forward to a fight with Matt Hughes if they would give me that fight. Thats where Im at right now. Georges is gonna fight Matt Serra, and Id like to fight Matt Hughes. I feel that Im undefeated, Ive worked my way up and if I could go in there and dispose of Matt Hughes in the first round, it would show a lot on my part and it would set up a big fight with the winner of Matt Serra and GSP.

lol @ people still doubting Diego. Seriously, he has to beat Jesus Christ himself before people begin giving him the credit he truly deserves. Many people didn't give him a chance against Diaz. Mostly because they just wanted to see him fail. What happened? He beat Diaz. Same deal with Karo. Now Riggs.

Even if the tables were switched, and Diego lost any one of those fights, people would be riding his case even harder, saying "See, I told you Diego was a bum."

Diego has earned his title shot. I don't see why he has to go through Hughes or Penn to earn it. Look at a lot of other contenders who've earned their title shots. Anderson earned a title shot after beating 1 person in the UFC. But anyone familiar with Anderson outside of UFC knew he was a worthy contender. Such is the case with Diego. He is worthy, but more importantly... deserving.
