Winner of Vera/Couture.. Title shot???

Hear me out here...
I was thinking about it. You have Shogun fighting for the title in a month, and Vera Couture right after that.
Assuming Machida defeats Shogun, or even if Shogun defeats Machida... if either victor comes out unharmed, they will most likely be looking to defend by March or so, maybe even February.

So who challenges?
Rashad and Rampage? Regardless of when it happens, they're next fight will have to be against each other after the termoil they are going to continue to stir on TUF. And they are predicting March for this confrontation, meaning at best... they would be ready to challenge by next summer.

Thiago Silva? Maybe if Shogun wins, but I don't see that happening... and I personally am not real interested in Machida/Silva 2, "The Beatdown".

Rich Franklin? just lost.

Forrest Griffin? Apparently fell off the planet, and will need a win or two before that can be considered.

Jon Jones? Still too early I think... and is yet to defeat a real a-lister.

Anderson Silva? Again, only if Shogun wins...

Chuck Liddell? Off dancing with Stars.

Tito Ortiz? Just came back, I think he's going to need a few more victories than Coleman to be in line.

Keith Jardine? Just lost.

I'm a Vera fan, and I don't think he can beat Machida, who I'm a bigger fan of... but honestly. Who else could they really lineup (at this point) other than him or Couture?

If Vera wins.....no, if Couture wins.....maybe.

This has LW and WW division-turmoil all over it. A stacked divisions of non-contenders.

So far.

Couture may get the fast track treatment with a W here.

Little Nog if Shogun wins

Vera just no. if you say jon jones hasn't beat a top competitior, well who has vera beaten?

Anderson again if Shogun wins

Couture hasn't had a lhw bout since 2006

i'd say winner of Cane Nog is much more likely
Cane is on a 3 fight win streak, with 1 dq loss in the UFC.
Little Nog obviously has a better chance at getting it than Couture/Vera.

I would have to say neither deserve it but as the OP pointed out, with rampage and Rashad tied up there's not many other choices to consider.

That's possible, but to answer your question if Vera defeats Couture, then my answer will be Couture... despite a long time out of the LHW division, Couture is top competition no matter who you slice it.

Plus, as I stated, I'm not saying this is a good idea or the way to go, not at all in fact... more so just being between a rock and hard place.

You know I was just pondering this whole LHW situation too. And you know what I can actually see why Dana & the UFC have put this fight together. Randy is already marketable and with a win over Vera can easily be thrown next in line for a title shot. Though I don't like his chances at all with neither Shogun or Machida. Stylistically, he's too slow & would get worked by both the younger & aggressive fighters. On Vera, it would be the biggest fight of his carreer. And it'd force him to fire away in hungry mode to want to win instead of the boring gun shy Vera we've seen lately making him more marketable. Just think "the guy that beat captain america". However if he loses & in boring fashion again, it gives reason for UFC to cut him too cus he's getting paid too much for less than stellar performances. It's a win /win fight that the UFC has put together.

Its a tough call to see who is next in line. I couldn't see Randy or Brandon getting a title shot that quick but who knows. If rampage and rashad woulda fought in December it def. would have been the winner of that brawl.

I would watch Brandon Vera fight Machida or Shogun....or cutting the shit: I would watch Brandon Vera fight Machida.

I don't necessarily think he would win but he hasn't been KO'd
so let's say he and Machida go 5 rounds. It is plausable Vera could work from the outside with leg kicks.

All I'm saying is I am interested in the fight.

Interest in Couture fighting Machida or Shogun goes without saying. So yes, I agree TS, make Couture/Vera a #1 contender match. TS laid it out perfectly that yeah, there isn't a real clear cut person in front of Vera other then BA Baracus....although Im ready for Matt Hammil to get his next fight so the buzz will really start. Im a big Hammil fan and have been since his name = shit in MMA.

Idk what will happen I dont think silva will get it because someone needs to take ranpages place agains rashad and being that rashad and keith are best friends I think a grudge match with silva would be good. Then rampage would fight him next.

I guess it could be possible for randy to get the shot howeve if bradon wins I dont think he will get the title shot.

TBH I think I have sort of a gut feeling about Hendo bumping to 205 to avoid the b.s with Anderson.

Since the Rampage/Rashad might be delayed till March, Rashad can have a fight soon (anderson silva?).

Thiago still hasn't impressed me, I say let him fight Franklin ( I say franklin dominates him).

Jon Bones jones is the new up and comer no doubt. Him and Hamill would be perfect for an elevation in this division and honestly I think Matt is very underrated could be a good fight.

Lil Nog with the way it is, he just needs some wins in the UFC first to let the new fans know who he is.

Ortiz and Coleman could show that tito still has it but theres a chance coleman could win. Coleman IMO is a better wrestler than tito and stylewise it could end up just like Couture vs Ortiz ended up if Coleman keeps his gastank going. Neither of these two are going straight to a title shot but if tito wins, he's going through several other high profile fights. If Coleman wins he pretty much only needs one other high profile match win to get a title shot because of his age.

Jardine, Forrest, and Liddell aren't going anywhere.

Couture vs Vera I can see going for a title shot. If Couture wins, the way its been he could go straight for a title shot but Vera, if he wins by a decision... no but if he wins by a k.o with the way Dana is with k.oing legends... Vera could get a title shot.

If Shogun wins against Lyoto, the spider is going to take the title shot
