WAGNNEY FABIANO GETS NEW WEC 43 OPPONENT
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 - by MMAWeekly.com Staff

World Extreme Cagefighting on Tuesday confirmed previous reports that newcomer Mackens Semerzier would step in to replace injured fighter Erik Koch. He will face No. 4 ranked featherweight Wagnney Fabiano at WEC 43 on Oct. 10 in San Antonio, Texas.

Semerzier is a training partner of former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres. WEC 43 will mark the first time that he has fought outside of Virginia and North Carolina. In Fabiano, Semerzier faces the toughest test of his young career.

Fabiano has lost only one time in his 13-bout career. Currently on an eight-fight winning streak, he is on the fast track to a shot at the WEC featherweight championship currently held by Mike Brown.

“Wagnney is an awesome fighter,” Semerzier, who fights out of Virginia Beach, Va., said. “I came up watching him fight some of the best. I know his jiu-jitsu is at a high level, but this isn’t a grappling match, it’s a fight. I’ll be ready to fight and make a name for myself in the WEC on Oct. 10.”

Good grief. What a matchup, I know it's last minute and everything, but can't they find somebody decent to throw at Fabiano? The guys a title contender, and they toss him a can.

Well, he is undefeated...I guess.

Fabiano has everything to lose in this one, but I doubt he'll lose anything.

Just found an interview where Fabiano says he won't fight Aldo:

Interesting. That might explain some of the Paixao fight too.

Agreed that he has nothing to win from this bout. I have a feeling that he's a journeyman at this point, a game contract talent to fill in parts of a card, but I can't see him getting much love or a title shot anytime.

That would be too easy for him. I bet he's going to use the fight to tune up his striking...at least a half round of stand up, then slithering and bear-hugging.

Wagney is an interesting first name. I can't see it being a good last name, although, it does have that last name feeling to it. He should name himself "The Wagney". You know, like a brand.

It's almost as good as Fredson (Paixao). Those Brazilians, they have some unusual first names, there is no doubt.

I know Mack....he works with my brother-in-law. I have been watching him fight for about a year now. He just might surprise you. We shall see. Fabiano's only loss was to another fighter from Linxx Academy in Va Beach, where Mack works and trains. Definitely not going crazy and predicting the upset, but Mack isn't going to be the pushover you might think.
But, I actually came on here to see if anyone knows if the undercard bouts are streamed live on WEC.tv, or are they not available until the entire event is over? It's confusing the way they have it worded on their site.
Thanks in advance for any info.
