Dana White: The UFC is considering a smaller Octagon

Actually, we’ve been talking about making the Octagon smaller. We’re considering making it smaller. [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva wants it. I think he wants to turn the thing into a [expletive] bathtub. Have them fight in a little tollbooth.

I think that'd be a good move.

It would encourage fighters to engage more on the feet.

Thoughts?

Hmm, very interesting. I like the idea, good to know the UFC is actually considering it. I feel like it could only make fights more exciting though a few fighters may be thrown off at first.

I think its fine the way it is, but I wouldn't mind the ref being able to give a yellow/red card that docked pay or points if people weren't doing anything, or running away.

Terrible idea. This isn't supposed to be dog fighting, this is supposed to be Mixed MARTIAL ARTS. There needs to be distance to use, angles to work, space to control. You need to be able to circle away, burst in to attack, and out if you need to. Why not just tie their off hands together and hand them each a knife?

I voted bad, but if there was another option for "maybe", I would have picked that. There would be less room to move around which would favor the aggressive fighters more. It might make the fights more exciting on average though. I would be interested in seeing a few sample matched with it.

I doubt they would make it THAT much smaller fellas. I would imagine they would just shave a few feet off the edges. Nothing too drastic.

If it's not broke don't fix it.

Maybe they'd make it the same size as the WEC cages?
