UFC 105 rant
Man, I really want to go, but I have no interest in this card at all.
Couture is irrelevant to me now, Vera doesn't deserve headline status. This fight also doesn't make much sense to me.
Hardy and Swick are not upper echelon fighters and shouldn't be co-headlining events. Oh yeahy another trash talk fuelled fight. How original.
Bisping vs Kang is interesting to me, but not an amazing fight. Mainly because I like kang and can't stand Bisping. In the UK he's literally being forced down my throat. I've met the guy, he's an ass.
The card is then stacked with English Fighters. The only 2 I actually like are Kelly/Taylor.
English people, don't enjoy seeing English MMA fighters, we enjoy the sport. We enjoy seeing relevant MMA fights regardless of nation. If these guys were all well known and well rounded fighters then that would be sweet. I don't think Dana appreciates how many people would turn up to an event in the UK if it was a more stacked card. There is a huge following here, just not as vocal as the USA, because we're a smaller nation. UFC 75 was massively succesful, I loved the event, a similar replication card would be amazing.
Unification bout between hendo and rampage? Cro-cop vs Kongo? Come on...
I dunno, this is a personal rant, I just hate waiting for months on end for a live nearby event, then when it comes- it's mediocre at best. Yawn... Flame away.

I hear you. But, in the past, some poor looking cards on paper have gone on to have amazing fights. It's been a while since I've considered an event disappointing. They vary from entertaining to excellent. The card is stacked with up and coming B & C fighters who are hungry to impress.
The most relevant fight it seems is Swick vs Hardy if that produces a #1 contender. The depth of the divisions in the UFC isn't as awesome as Danas marketing team would have us all believe.

Yeah totally agree, although fans have to vote with their feet. If Dana is getting sellouts for crappy cards he will keep doing it.
Remember us Aussies are still waiting for our first event but if UFC 105 was in Australia I'd pass.

I voted with my two feet and aren't going. The nearer it gets the more I wish I was going. It's just not worth the money for what it is. Not for decent seats anyway.
But after Hardy/Swick got announced I was like damn. The thing that puts me off is Pearson and Wilks on the main card.

Can't see how Couture is irrelevant. The guy is coming off tow losses, yeah, but those losses came in very competitive fights against two of the best heavyweights in the world.
But yeah, I'm with you on the stacking of cards with fighters who come from the countries those cards are held in. It makes a difference when it comes to top guys, but for lower-card fighters, I'm not sure the crowd cares that much.

As I've said in a previous thread, I think this is a good card and look forward to seeing it. I hear what you're saying in regards to getting a more stacked bill, but nonetheless English fighters based in England are more likely to appear on these cards logistically more then anything. And the natural is always relevant!

The general consensus on here is UK fans don't care about patriotism and don't go weak at the knees at the thought of a bunch of below par UK fighters on a card. I completely agree, I'd rather see more relevant and simply better fighters.
I don't know why the UFC think putting a load of average Brits on a card is a draw in this country, but they seem to know what they're doing in this business so perhaps they have reason to beleive it draws in bigger crowds?
Maybe with UK cards being on Spike, the UFC learnt that they can't have big names like Rampage etc as they have to pay them too much? Perhaps a load of Brits is the next best thing, rather than a bunch of average and unknown fighters from other countries?
I think the thing to remember is we on here aren't exactly casual fans with a casual outlook on the sport. We are all about the sport, the calibre of fighters and important fights. But maybe the average fan over here just wants to see an English fighter bash some foreign heads? I'm not sure either way, but it is frustrating.

I think it's more to do with fighters taking cuts of PPV revenue. UK shows aren't on PPV so I think some of the bigger stars aren't keen on having a smaller purse.
I dont think the UFC necessarily cares about these guys fighting abroad. Logistically it's just a couple of plane tickets.
I think they actually think we want to see C-Level Brits fight.

I'm pretty pumped for this fight card. It's free on spike right? It's not the best card ever, but we get to see Randy for free. Sounds like a good deal to me.
