Strikeforce could become major competitor in US
I've read a lot of Strikeforce bashing recently in the UFC Forum lately and this is my commentary on it.
Some history on Strikeforce:
-8 years older than UFC
-First event ever (Shamrock vs Gracie) still holds the highest paid attendance record.
-Shows on NBC, CBS, Showtime and HDNet.
-Integrates women's matches
-Has many top 10 fighters, including #1 HW Fedor Emelianenko, #7 LHW (formerly #2 MW) Gegard Mousasi, and #1 P4P Female fighter Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.
The Upcoming bout will be aired on television's most watched network (over 104 million homes - 2009) for free on Nov. 7th.
Features many top ten fighters and big names:
#1 HW Emelianenko vs #6 HW Brett Rogers
#7 LHW Mousasi vs Sokoudjou
#4 WW Jake Sheilds vs Jason "Mayhem" Miller
MMA Legend Fabricio Werdum vs Antonio Silva
I know that the UFC is the big dog on the block and I'm sure will be for a while now. But they're spreading themselves thin and this free Strikeforce card is undeniably appealing and stacked.
At first I see Strikeforce throwing a few of these big cards on a year, maybe 3-4 times. But being free and available to most homes in America (6+ million more than Spike), I'm sure they'll catch on and grow in popularity. They're very aggressive in hiring new talent and arranging big fights and I can't imagine them not growing huge.
I think this card can go head to head with any major UFC PPV (especially because it's free) and win out, and if they keep up this kind of quality they can't help but suceed.
Thoughts/Opinions?
Mods please do not move to Strikeforce forums.

Problem is, the casual fan does not know anyone in strikeforce with a few exceptions. They will still tune into the UFC over strikeforce.

Strikeforce has never been very good with their promoting. The UFC on the otherhand, promotes everything.

They need to pick up a pair of good commentators also, Rogan/Goldie can hype up pretty much anything. The commercial wasn't very good, but I did see it a couple times today watching the Florida/LSU game so at least they are trying.

Yeah uh, how many other organizations had the #1 heavyweight in the world? Where are they now?
Can't use the womens division as any leverage considering women MMA is on the downfall since the playgirl took a nose dive.
Mousasi was never the #2 middleweight in the world.
It doesn't have that many big names. Half of the "MMA community" in the United States still doesn't know who Mousasi, Werdum (certainly NOT an MMA "legend"..a BJJ legend maybe, but not MMA), Mayhem, or Brett Rogers are. The only reason they know who Rogers is now is because he's fighting Fedor, so the internet MMA community has hyped this guy up to shit so when Fedor beats him, it'll look like he's beaten a legit contender.

Okay guy, name one fight off of the next two UFC cards (besides Lyoto v Shogun) you'd rather watch over any of the fights on this card? Or would you rather pay $50 for one Lyoto fight or get all these fights for free?

So the upcoming Fedor fight is gonna be aired completely for free??? Cool
I don't think Strikeforce will overtake UFC any time soon... UFC is the established "Big Dog". Infact many people use the words UFC and MMA interchangeably.
But I do think Strikeforce can be good competition and push UFC to be even better. I can watch both UFC and Strikeforce shows. That being said tho... if UFC and Strikeforce had a show at the same time I'd watch the UFC show.

Strikeforce are the main but not major competition to the UFC. The major competition to the UFC is boxing IMO and the guys that are trying to minimize global expansion.
Strikeforce are good, are the main MMA competition but the UFC crushes them. Apart from hardcore MMA fans, not many would watch Strikeforce.
At this point in time, they don't pose much of a threat to the UFC.

What also needs to mentioned is there are some bad points about ufc that they will never change: They go together to give the ufc a sort of douchey redneckey style that will always hold it back.
If strikeforce can have one of their best fighters in every event, then I'll be watching them
