Could Bellator end up taking fighters from the WEC?

There's no way that Bellator will be able to compete with the UFC, but the WEC is a different story. For Bellator's first tournament, first round winners made 25K, second round winners 50K, and the champion made 100K. Even a first round win is pretty serious money for most of these guys. If you were a young fighter looking to sign with a decently sized promotion, wouldn't you give Bellator a lot of consideration? Why fight in the WEC for a couple grand when you could fight for Bellator and potentially make 200K if you win the tournament? I don't know how long Bellator will last while paying guys that much, but even some of the bigger names in the WEC might consider going to Bellator if they stick around. I mean, Mike Brown would probably breeze through a 145lb. tournament, earn himself a big chunk of change and then a title fight (and another paycheck).

I really think Zuffa needs to do something with the WEC if they want to keep all of the talent at the lighter weight classes. Either fold them into the UFC or put them on PPV so these guys can get the money and recognition they deserve.

Interesting point...

Miguel Torres' base pay for his last title fight was 26k, and both Faber and Mike Brown pulled in 25k in their last match...

So if a guy thinks he can steamroll through a Bellator tourney and collect big coin, then maybe it will happen.

I think Bellator has the right idea at the moment. They arent trying to go head to head with the UFC and they give there fighters the opportunity to make big money. This keeps them from having to give out a lot of big contracts while not seeming cheap. They seem like a smart org, they know what happens when you get into a showdown with the UFC.
