Fisher on Stevenson: "He's going to pitter-pat karate punches & dive for my shoes."
hilarious quote because it's true. it blew my mind when i read spencer has finished 83% of his 23 wins! holy crap. i mean really? 83% finish rate is incredible.
WAR FISHER
Quote:
"I don't think he'll stand with me. I think he'll be diving for my shoelaces every chance he gets. I just saw what he had wrote about me and I'm going to punch him in the face for that. Plain and simple, he's not going to stand with me. He's going to try to pitter-pat his karate punches and dive for my shoelaces. He has animosity against me and that's fine with me, it's a fight -- I don't want to be friends anyhow. I'm all about it." -Spencer Fisher
An angry Spencer Fisher is ready to make Joe Stevenson his fourth win in-a-row at UFC 104 in Los Angeles, CA. At 23-4, the Miletich Fighting Systems product hasn't lost in nearly two years; defeating Jeremy Stephens, Shannon Gugerty and Caol Uno along the way. Fisher is 8-3 with the UFC and most known for his stand-up skills but has ground game not to be ignored.
Of the lightweight's 23 wins, 11 have come by KO or TKO, eight by submission and just four have gone the distance. Fisher's record is living proof that he goes in and finishes fights. The 33-year-old has managed to end 83% of his contests over an impressive seven year career.

Just further reason to love The King.
Actually, after really thinking about his impressive record, his exciting fights, and his dangerous skills, I'm kind of surprised he's not on really anyone's top 10 list. I think it's safe to argue that if he wins this fight, he has a legitimate opportunity to put himself in title contention.
Thoughts?

I love me some Spencer Fisher and he's one of my favorite fighters to watch but I hate this match-up for him. Since Joe is training with Team Jackson he probably won't resort to the stupid boxing style stand-up he tried against Diego Sanchez and will probably try to do what Frankie Edgar did to Spencer which was take him down, control him and limit the stand up as much as possible.
If Spencer can keep it standing he'll win this hands down and his TDD needs to be better than it has been because I really see Joe constantly trying to take him down and dry humping him into a UD.
Love to see Spencer win but I gots my doubts.

Kinda torn on this one, Fan of both fighters . Still should be a good fight, Spencer takes it if Joe tries to stand with him but if Joe can bring him down, as Walker said, I can see this fight becoming very Fisher vs. Edgar-esque.

Uhm, why does Fisher want to flap his gums so bad I mean do people honestly believe he can win this? Joe will easily take this one, I don't see Fisher having anything to win this fight.

I think you're crazy to underestimate Fisher like that. Fisher can win this but he'll have to keep it standing to do it.

Hmm, my opinion is starting to get swayed. I like to bet on UFC and I originally took Stevenson -220 (see here for UFC 104 odds) but I'm starting to change my thinking...
Stevenson is at his best when he wrestles and uses his brute strength but he struggles whenever he wants to "play striker." It's Sean Sherk syndrome. He can't stand and trade yet he gets this love affair with doing it.
Should I make a new bet on the King? I feel like Stevenson will take the bait and stand with him. That would give the edge to Fisher.

This is exactly how I see the fight going down. And I have to totally disagree with the online betting site. Daddy might have a really good chin, but if there's anyone that can test that in the LW division, it's The King. I see Daddy getting lulled into a stand-up war, losing that war, and going for the TD. The real question is whether, or not, Spencer hurts him enough on their feet, and wears down his cardio enough to stay on his feet.
