Rumble 6 over...WTF

According the various news outlets, Anthony Johnson logged a final weigh in of 176 lbs.

I opted not to comment on some of the threads regarding his large cut because I don't really care how much he has to cut.

But I do think it's shit that he comes in that heavy...6lbs.? C'mon Rumble, if you can't do 170 then don't say you can.

I do hope he does well at 185 though, but we shall see.

Its a shame when a fighter gets a win when hes overweight. Its also awesome when the fighter that makes weight destroys the heavier guy.

I didn't see the weigh ins, but if Johnson really was 6 pounds over, then there are serious implications for his character and his future as a WW.

6 pounds over is a stupid amound of weight, it means you are not even close to making weight. That means you aren't trying hard enough, or you are just too big.

If he had an injury that made it difficult for him to cut weight, he should have informed the UFC, he is contractually and ethically obligated too. I remember when Alves basically said straight up after the Hughes fight that he knew he wasn't going to make weight because of some ankle injury. Well say something then dumbass.

I thought AJ had a bright future at WW, but this makes me seriously reconsider.

The reality is AJ just thought it was really cool that he could swell up 50 lbs to 220 between fights and still make weight. Clearly he will now realise that he can no longer do this. He wont gain anywhere near that much weight between fights again, my guess is he will cap himself at around 200lbs to make sure he can make the weight next time.

I would imagine that he knows a lot of his success at 170 is due to his size and reach advantage and will not go up to middleweight unless he absolutly has to e.g. another failed attempt to make weight in his next fight.

That's an awful shame, although it appeared to be coming. He should fight a weight up, it can't be good for him trying to shed that much weight in a short time. Pity bout the fight now too, no doubt Mr White isn't too pleased.

When Anthony was walking up to the scale he was shaking his head. You could tell he was very disappointed in himself and embarrassed at the same time. Hard to say if he will make middleweight his new home.

Technically he was 5 over as you can come in at 171, but either way it's bad. He was severely disapointed in himself as you can see from his body language, and he is coming off an injury too, which could be part of it. People are sort of making him out to be the new Travis Lutter, which is BS. Lutter is just a lazy bum, Johnson was injured and couldnt lose any more weight. I'm sure he'll make it next fight.

Also, wtf is with like half the fighters last night not making weight?

He has had 6 fights in the UFC and been massively over weight in two of them (he was 177 against Clementi). I don't think it is necessarily an injury problem, I think he is so big that it is very difficult for him to make 170. He is young enough that he is still filling out so it isn't going to get easier for him, it will get harder. I think he has to move up to MW.

I wasn't aware he was that much over against Clementi. Yeah he should definitely move up if it's becoming a persistant issue.
