This is one of the strangest statements ever. he DID beat the champion. What does one have to do to win? pull out a crowbar and kill the guy? he won, but the judging was obviously not there.

I thought Shogun won 1,3,4,5. I should watch it again... but I will say that I thought Rua won it without question. This was a shockingly bad decision victory and really diminishes Machida just as Hammil's loss diminished Bisping. Guess Shogun is a really big deal again...he sure deserves to be. Vera is probably still shitting himself in happiness since his style nullified Karate last night.

The thing is that people don't agree what rounds to give each fighter. Even Shogun said he thought he had won the last three rounds. The judges didn't agree in the rounds to give each fighter. Dana had a different opinion too.

The fight was too close to call, almost a draw, and that's why they didn't give the title to Shogun. Perhaps he won the fight, but he didn't beat the champion.

48-47 Machida. This is having watched it back a 2nd time. On first view I thought Shogun had it won, and had him winning 4 rounds. After watching far more closely, and ignoring the commentary I had Machida winning rounds 1, 3 and 4. Any talk of it being robbery is ridiculous though, and I'm sure if those people calling it as such watched the fight back they'd agree. Sure you could argue that Shogun won the fight, but it was far from robbery. It was an incredibly close, technical battle that should be getting praised as one of the fights of the year. It's a shame it's being brought down by what I consider to be frankly ridiculous claims of daylight robbery.

Great that you made this thread, becouse the fact, that allmost everyone thinks differently about the round taking (even if you gave ir 48-47 to Rua), says that the decision wasn't that bad, but it was very close.
The judges thought that Machida took 1-3, i think. Shogun though, he won 2-5. I thought Machida took the 5th. That alone tells you, that there were some rounds where no one really can tell a 100% winner of the round.
And even though, I thought Rua won 48-47 (I'm planning to watch it again with mute, maybe I will change some thoughts), there is no reason for you to brag, becouse the decision actually was so damn close.

48-47 Rua. I gave Lyoto rounds 1 and 3. But was it a bad decision like everyone was saying? Not at all imo. Some of those rounds were razor close and could have gone either way. If Rogan was pointing out all the shots Machida was landing and ignoring what Shogun was doing then people would see the fight differently. I'm sure as I watch the fight again I'll probably score it differently each time. This fight easily could have gone either way.

I hope they rematch before anyone else gets a shot at Machida.
I have Machida winning the rematch when it happens. I don't think he will let Shogun get all those kicks in next time.

Oh really, what is he gonna do? Take Shogun down and think he'll submit him.... Shogun wanted to take him down many times but I guess Lyoto isn't that confident on the ground. There's nothing Lyoto can do to his standup to stop Shogun from landing so much, it's just the way he stands. Styles make the fight.

Re-watched it twice: once without sound and once with (hey, I have time off from school). I thought gave it 48-47 to Shogun. I gave round 1 and 3 to Machida and 2,4,5 to Rua. I think why people are so mad is because in 4 and 5, Rua clearly won while 1-3 were close. Nevertheless, it wasn't a robbery and it wasn't a 49-46 or 50-45 for Rua. Yes, he pulled off two comfortable last rounds but Machida was able to steal a couple rounds (1 and 3) right from under Shogun's nose.

The fight is over and its time to move on. Hopefully, we get the match in the end of January (Superbowl weekend). Until then, I'd just say that BOTH Lyoto Machida and Shogun Rua are the disputed champions.

Someone brought up a great point in here about how the claims of robbery are severely diminishing the fight. It was an amazing battle of technical skills from a fighter I really didn't think could give Lyoto much of a challenge, my hat is definitely off to Shogun for that. That being said, it's EXTREMELY interesting that everyone is shouting foul play, yet there is no general consensus on which rounds Shogun won/lost, that along does show it's not nearly the robbery everyone is making it out to be. Definitely looking forward to the rematch though.

You know whats funny tra if you watch the post fight press....Dana, Shogun and machida all say the rounds they think they won, and if you take the average it poins to the outcome we got last night....

Dana said: RD23 machida RD45 Rua with 1st a toss up

Rua said: 1st 4th 5th I believe and Machida won 2nd 3rd

machida said: 1st 2nd 3rd I believe and that Rua won 4th and 5th

I'm not rock solid but I think thats right....check it out dude....

62-10 in favor of shogun, Sherdog has a pole of who won with 17000 votes and SHogun winning had 82% of people thinking he won. Strikes 82-42, was aggressor whole fight and controlled the octogon and pace of fight. What else is there to say. I will admit it was a close fight but I just dont see how anyone can think Machida won this fight. When it was announced everyone I was with just scratched their heads. The guy I bet is a huge Machida fan and wouldnt even take my money cause he knew he lost.

In a fight where a majority of people score it 48-47 for Shogun, it isn't too surprising to have the score end up 48-47 for Machida. One round in there definitely could have gone for Machida instead of Shogun.

I personally thought that Shogun won, but people are out of their damn minds if they think this is the worst upset/decision in MMA history.
