I think Shogun would beat him in the rematch, and the biggest reason I come back to is, Lyoto Machida cannot hurt Shogun at all. I also think alot of people underestimated Shogun's speed coming into the 1st fight. Will Lyoto make adjustments for Shogun's kicks? He probably will but the problem is can he do that without compromising his fighting style. I also wouldn't advise Machida to get too aggressive, firstly that's not his game, and secondly when Machida starts opening up he does tend to get a little sloppy with his hands and you do not want to brawl with any former Chute Boxe fighter let alone Shogun, especially Machida that's not his game at all. It's a really good matchup as last night proved, I've seen the Machida/Shogun fight a few times, and after rewatching the Shogun/Liddell fight, Shogun has really exercised alot of patience (which is why alot of people were picking Lyoto they thought Shogun would bum rush him and get picked apart, not the case) and more precision than he has previously, A healthy Shogun with patience and a gameplan is a very scary fighter.

lol.. the nut huggery is so cute.

I have bet 6 times on Machida and will go for the seventh, the odds should be a lot better too if all these Rua crybabies actually put some money on their loser.

agree. I think Lyoto comes in with a better plan in regards to the leg and body kicks. I think he was expecting the clinch and didn't plan for those shogun low kicks. The body kicks took a bit out of him but i think it was the leg kicks that truly gave him a run for it. He was flat footed by the end of the second, didn't have any of the bounce we're used to seeing from Machida. I think that with that bounce, with that extra speed -- with a better game plan to deal with that threat -- Machida fights his fight and it comes off a little like GSP v Penn 1, then 2... with different players.

Machida for a dominant win on the second go around.

not to take anything away from Shogun though -- AWESOME to see him back at his old form. I'd really like to see him take Rampage's place in a fight with Rashad on the PPV following TUF, but i guess the rematch is first.

Looking at Rua at the post interview, i feel that Rua thinks he should get a knock-out or a more brutal punishment for Machida in their much highly anticipated rematch.

Again, this is all i say, "The Shogun will Slay the Dragon". And it will be bloody and Machida will be destroyed if not brutally punished. That is my personal prediction, ok!?

Picked Rua on this one. Its pretty disheartening because I feel like Machida has the advantage of learning from "defeat" here and making changes to his gameplan. All Shogun really has to go off of is to try and finish the fight because Judging isn't always accurate or a safe bet. So saying that Machida does counter Shogun's game and gets another win that puts Machida at 2-0 which is a real shame because I definitely feel Rua deserved that W and putting the record at 1-1 at least sets up a trilogy.

But my reasoning for picking Rua of course is that he surprised the hell out of me in this fight and if he can do that again then I can see this fellow being the next LHW champ. Pretty stoked on Shogun now, its nice to see a performance like this after a pretty dismal UFC debut.

Edit- Definitely feelin the dead even poll

Machida won the first fight in a razor thin decision, but the second fight would be much more impressive for Lyoto. He wasn't expecting Shogun to do very well because of his aggressive style, I am sure he underestimated Shogun's aggressiveness, and thought it would be more like the Thiago fight, so he didn't quite prepare for all the technical kicks, not to mention Shogun bringing all that badassary.

Machida will adapt his style more to fit Shogun, and work on the mistakes he made.
