not to mention that giving up the belt would mean fu*k all. Machida would remain the LHW champ of the UFC.

Fighters get their chance to decide the outcome of a fight in the ring/cage, not once the judges render a decision.

Of course I wouldn't give away my belt. I felt Machida lost but he should be glad he got the decision and start getting motivated to do better in the rematch.

im really sick of this made up rule ppl keep posting that they think is an actual rule... "too close to call" DOES NOT GO TO THE CHAMP, THAT IS AN EVEN ROUND. There is no "close goes to the champ" rule in sports, sorry. If there is a close call in a Laker game next week, it wont go to the lakers cuz they are the champs, when 2 fighters step in the ring, they are on equal footing, there is NO ADVANTAGE. If you really think a round is too close to call, then call it a draw.....

As for giving up the belt.... why?? The rematch is coming, unless your a fool that thinks "close rounds go to the champ" it doesnt matter who comes in next fight with the belt, esp wit hthe majority of the community seeing Shogun as the winner, its like he comes in as the champ in ppls minds anyways.

Speaking of not going for the KO and being happy with a decision... didnt machida built his entiure career on this?? LOL irony. Your talking about Shogun like he doesnt have one of the highest KO rates in MMA history, like he doesnt live to KO ppl...

It's more embarrassing to have the majority of the MMA community not view you as the real champ, even tho you have the belt, im sure Machida wants this rematch asmuch as Shogun does, but unlike Shogun, he wont be more aggressive, he wont look to finish it, he seems only capable of one style his entire career and i dont think a few months is enough to change it....

WAR Shogun!!!

No need to call others names because you've worked yourself into a tissy over a nonissue.

It is a common point of judging, call it etiquette or whatever -- no one called it a 'rule', that you have to beat the Champ to win the strap. Close doesn't, and shouldn't, cut it. 10 point rounds are a flawed system for judging MMA plain and simple.

This is not the judges fault it is Shogun's. The scorecards are the judge's opinions. If you dont trust someone elses opinion, then dont leave the decision in their hands.

Shogun didn't win. If he wanted the belt he should have taken it.

Half of this board has Shogun winning a close fight. I'm sure that Machida is slighlty biased towards himself and probably feels like his performance was horrible, but I'm sure he feels like he won.

The belt is just a big shiny piece of Gold, it's what ppl think it represents that matters, and right now, most ppl dont think it represents the best 205er in the UFC, so it has no meaning, im sure Machida knows this, he has to beat Shogun to make ppl think he is the true champ now, so it doesnt matter who's waist it comes into the fight on, it will matter who's waist it leaves on, because until then, its just a piece of gold with no meaning imo
