Hughes vs. Sanchez Next?

Well, the rubber match between GSP and Hughes won't take place at UFC 69 as Dana White first suggested. Reason, Matt Hughes isn't ready to fight GSP yet.

The Fight Network :: ALL FIGHTS ALL THE TIME :: Get it on!

“I’m hearing word back that [Matt] Hughes might want to wait,” White told the press Wednesday following the highly-successful UFC Fight Night, held at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.

In the last week, the word has become more definitive.

“After discussing the future with Matt, it was agreed that it would be in his best interests to take a fight in between a rematch with St. Pierre,” Hughes’ longtime manager Monte Cox said this morning. “This way, he would have more time to train specific skills that would give him a better chance at winning back the title.”

“We’re going to Montreal in April no matter what,” reinforced White of the promotion’s Northern debut, suggesting last week that Hughes could match up with undefeated welterweight contender Diego Sanchez next."

So who fights GSP next? Serra?? LOL... that will be more like practice for GSP. You can't really blame Hughes for not wanting to fight GSP for the belt yet. He got his ass handed to him and he wants to train harder and maybe come in with a game plan this time around.

GSP is still going to fight Serra at UFC 67, but Hughes also wants to fight at UFC 67 and maybe put against Diego. Which will make a lot of people on this forum very very happy, as well as me. Hughes needs to fights sooner then in April so he can stay fit and get better because even though I really like Hughes he needs to get much better to beat or even come close to beating GSP. So an earlier fight is the best thing for Hughes to do.

I dont know if its a great idea for Matt Hughes to wait though.
He is getting younger. I would think Matt is much closer to his full potential than GSP who can still develop a lot since hes only 25.

However i do think that there is a good chance that the rubber match between the two will be more close than the last one.

This is awesome news, I hope it really is Sanchez vs. Hughes.

This is pretty much a do or die situation for both fighters; a win over Sanchez for Hughes would be a great confidence booster, something Hughes needs after his overwhelming loss to St. Pierre and a win over Hughes will put Sanchez as the #1 contender for the belt.

Diego also hasn't fought any one with the skills that GSP and Hughes have. So this fight will show if Diego really deserves to be up there with the best or if he is just better then the middle of the pack. Diego needs this to prove that he is for real and Hughes needs this to give him some footing for the fight with GSP.

diego wont win,hes jumping in the level of the opponent hes facing to far. He will lose a 3 unani or get pounded out in the crusifix position like hughes did to newton and penn.

Diego vs Hughes will be a WAR. Diego asked for it, and now dana is giving it to him. I hope hughes doesn't take this fight lightly, because Sanchez always comes prepared. I hope Hughes wins but I'm leaning towards diego right now.
