The only way i see him changing his game plan so to speak is if Shogun goes for the takedown but i dont think he will. But i think alot of ppl are expecting too much of Machida, he doesnt adjust, we saw that in the 5th round of a championship fight many ppl thought he was losing, at the very least he had to think that round could be the decisive one and what did he do?? The same thing he always does.

Not many people make in-fight adjustments...it really is odd too. Such professional athletes and few of them actually adjust their plans throughout the fight.
I never said he would come in with a different gameplan (and I realize you didn't quote me), I just think he will be more focused and prepared to defeat Shogun's. He clearly lost focus either in training or during the fight.

i hear ya, but my thinking is, we've seen him vs strikers(T. Silva, Sok) bjj guys (Penn, T. Silva and Rua all have good/great bjj) wrestlers (rashad, tito) and the game plan always stayed the same and he always won. I think it would be a big mistake to go too far from the gameplan, it's his comfort zone and he is very good at it, if he strays to far i guarantee he will get KO'd.

Obv it was Shogun that showed the versaility last fight, he went from Wandy clone to a guy that picks his spots and moves in and out, a beautiful thing to see. He definately has more gears then Machida who is stuck in neutral all fight unless he has you hurt then you see a sudden flurry and think "why doesnt he do that more??".... prob because he loathes taking risks.

And I agree...but he needs to learn to deal with the body and leg kicks a little better because Rua really ate him up with those. That is what I was saying...his gameplan is good and you don't win all of your fights with out something that works in that area. But if it doesn't change (not drastically) then it will get beaten. Just like Tito's, Chuck's, Hughes', Franklin's, etc. If you aren't progressing then you are falling behind.

at the end of the day his camp and the judges felt he won thge fight, hell his camp was talking about he won all 5 rounds.... im sure he will try subtle things to try and counter the leg kicks but im thinking if a big adjustment is gonna be done, it will be done from Shoguns side and he is capable of being much more aggressive but that may play into Machida's hands.
Either way, despite what many ppl thought, i enjoyed the last fight. A stand up chess match, both guys thinking about counters and displaying great defense and patience. I think the pressure is really on Shogun to "take" the title away from Machida in a undisputeable way, it may work against him.
Fighting Machida must feel to Shogun how Modern Warfare feels for me.... i wanna run out and be aggressive but i pay for it everytime so i just camp haha ;P

I'm going with Shogun again. No matter how you slice it, Shogun is the more versatile fighter. I also think this is going to be epic as both fighter are going to try to knock each other out to prove once and for all who is the best fighter.

I'm not sure I agree with all this 'Machida has the heart and mind of a true warrior' crap, did you guys see the footage of him in the dressing room after the fight? He was shaken up trying not to cry, not from pain or injuries, he couldn't believe he was still alive. He just 'won' a fight and he looked like the world was crashing around him, cus he knew that one more minute of that fight would have seen him in a heap on the mat. Shogun however was sure he just won the light-heavyweight title, then didn't win it, took it on the chin and didn't complain, answered the press' questions honestly (unlike Machida the True Warrior, who just kissed the judge's asses) and politely demanded a rematch. Machida looked like a spoilt little brat who just had his lolly taken off him after that fight, even though he still had his precious lolly... Shogun is the true warrior and I'll bet he's fought tougher blokes than Machida.
Shogun by TKO.

Of course! No Fighter can change his style of fighting so dramitcally in only a couple of months. But why should he? He doesn't need to change it. He already showed that his style is one of the best in MMA. And only because he coudn't adjust to Rua's style doesn't mean he can't do it next time. Don't you think he will be able to defend a lot better against Rua's leg kicks next time?? Don't you think he will suprise Shogun with Takedown's and some ground and pound? Machidas groundgame is very underrated, he won a lot of fights on the ground in his past and is a black belt in BJJ. I think this will be the major change in the next fight. Also the defense against the leg kicks will be a lot better next time. And yes i am pretty sure he will try to catch some of those leg kicks and hit him straight in the face with a nice punch. He can practise this over and over again with the legs of Anderson Silva! Lyoto is a very smart guy, we can only speculate of what he will doing different in the next fight. But i am pretty sure he will suprise the audiance with something nobody expect's to see.
Also many people forget about his mind and his confidence. I consider him to be the strongest mind in MMA right now. He is far superior of Shogun in this point.

What do you mean? He may have won the fight but he didn't do anything to be proud of...
