I think all this stuff about Machida been the strongest mentally is total bs. You could say the same about any fighter on any given night. If Machida is that great why is that he couldn't solve the Shogun style and beat him convincingly ? I personally don't like his style. He depends way to much on his elusiveness. What's going to happen as he gets older and fights younger faster guys ? I think he has been exposed and things will never be the same. His fights are going to be close fights from now on. I don't think he can reinvent himself at this point in his career. Just my .02 cents.

Machida loses this fight either way in my eyes. Unless Cecil is there to save him. If he doesnt change the way he fights, he gets kicked around for five rounds like the last fight, only Shogun will be more brutal. If he does change the way he fights, then his whole mysterious Machida karate fighting aura that allowed him to dance around everybody is gone and he becomes another normal fighter for Shogun to crush.

It's interesting, 50 people voted and it's 50/50. There's no favorite in this fight?

Favorite fighters:
1. Badr Hari
2. Remy Bonjasky
3. Mauricio Rua
4. Anderson Silva
5. Alistair Overeem

I'll have to wait possibly over a year to see a new match up for the LHW championship? Can't say I'm too fond of that.

I think shogun might want to take it to the ground this time, look what tito almost pulled, shogun is better on the ground. I think he should take it there..

I for one am not entire sold on blaming the judges for the scoring of their first fight. There are so many people who gave Rua 4 out of 5 rounds, which I did not. I did have Rua winning the fight 48-47 however I can see Machida winning by the same score. Fact is that it was a very close fight. So close that so far the polls on this thread are 50/50, with valid arguments on both sides. To say that Machida does not have power is a false statement IMO. That's not to say that he KO Rua though, simply because it has never been done before. Machida also took some punches from Rua which in the past meant a KO or TKO for Shogun, so obviously Machida has a strong chin. One thing many people overlook from the first fight is that Machida's "gameplan" seemed to be to take the leg kicks and counter from there. In between rounds they brought out 5 gallon buckets with bags of ice specifically for the legs. This tells me that Machida knew his legs were gonna take a beating. If Shogun becomes more agressive I think that Machida counters punches much better than leg kicks and if he comes in with the same leg kick attack I think Machida has a better defense for that in the rematch (his good friend is AS, who too is a Muay Thai specialists and surely will provide some intel). Than there is the unthinkable that this fight goes to the ground with two BJJ black belts, which I think will happen, giving Machida the sub victory by either RNC or guillotine.

I think the opposite will happen that Machida tries some Takedowns this time. And i actually think that Lyoto has more experience on the ground then Rua. But it should be a pretty even matchup on the ground to.

I'm still saying Machida.

I think Rua was hard done by last time so I'll be cheering for him, but I see Machida coming in with a better gameplan this time round and taking a convincing decision.

So am I. I think Machida is quite capable of being much, much more aggressive, and is smart enough not to rely on his elusiveness all the time.

That's the mark of a great fighter, I think, an ability to evolve and recognize that there is always room for change and improvement.

My prediction: Machida refuses to evolve and comes out looking the same with the same game plan. Rua by TKO rd 2, Shogun was to the point of tears he was so upset by the terrible decision. Last time he was that upset about a decision, he beat the shit out of Rampage and made him quit in under five minutes.

Mauricio "Bad Decisions Rub Me the Wrong Way" Rua!
