Paul Buentello Question

Not a huge fan, but not a hater either. I thought he was a can after the 15 second knockout from Arlovski, but when I heard he was coming back to the UFC it made me look up his record.

34-10 - nothing spectacular but has fought a couple of big names.

3-1 in the UFC. His only loss was in a title fight and he fought 4 times within the span of a yaer (almost to the day).

Can someone tell me, why did he leave/cut from the UFC? He returns 50 ppv's later to (possibly) KO Struve in two weeks, but I can't find any info on why he left the org after a going 3-1. My only assumption was Strikeforce offering him more interesting fights... maybe a little more money... I don't know.

Buentello is definitely the very top tier of "B" level fighters. He's great, very technical, I pick him over Struve and even Duffee without taking too much damage.

I think perhaps he's just not genetically gifted enough to reaaaally be a top tier fighter. As to why he was cut I have no idea, he destroyed the guy he faced after Arlovski and he's always exciting to watch. He had some exciting fights with SF and Affliction for sure, and I wish SF still had him in their roster.

Buentello headlined the first SF card he was in, so maybe that was the bargaining chip that they used to get him from the UFC.

Paul Buentello is a great striker at HW. He can take a shot (minus the Arlovski incident)

I can see him dropping alot of UFC HWs in the lower ranks. But his ground game leaves alot of unanswered questioned.

I want to see him standing against Kongo. I think he'd win the striking game.

Congo is arguably the best striker in the division. The problem is he has no ground defense so everyone just goes for the takedown.

Buentello's in cause the HW division is seriously lacking at the moment, especially with the injuries. And as we all can tell the TUF winner don't seem like they'll be making to many waves in the UFC.

Nah for sure JDS is the best striker, Kongo is great too but JDS' record + credentials + training partners and it's easy to see he's better.

I'd love to see a card with maybe Duffee vs Buentello, Vitor vs Lil Nog (at 195 maybe?), Silva vs Vitor, JDS vs Kongo, and just have an all-around crazy ass strikefest night.

Although a lot of the time striker vs striker, the slightly better ground guy just goes for the TD and embarasses everyone for 15-25 minutes.
