Which UFC fighters impressed and suprised you in 2006?

As I look back at 2006, I try to see which UFC fighters really impressed and surprised me...Here are a few of my picks...

Anderson Silva: Middleweight champion after only 2 UFC fights...Need I say more...Some say he got a title shot to quickly...But he ended up beaten the champ anyway, so does it really matter how quick he got a title shot?? I don't think so! Very impressed by Anderson Silva!

Diego Sanchez: After 3 tough fights in 2006, Mr. Sanchez is still undefeated...The unanimous decision over Parisyan impressed me and I give two big thumbs up to Diego!

Mike Swick: Is win over Loiseau really surprised me. I gave this guy no chance before the fight...Swick had a solid year with 3 wins...I can't wait to see what he does in 2007!!

George St-Pierre: How can I not mention this guy, is win over Hughes was very impressise and let's not forget is comeback victory over Penn...The new Welterweight champ should have impressed everyone in 2006.

Anybody care to share who impressed or surprised them in 2006??...

My Top 3

Chuck Liddell
GSP
Anderson Silva

I was surprised with Jason MacDonald. He was just fighting Ed Herman, but his ground game was awesome. He seemed to be just toying with Ed. I pick MacDonald over Leben this week.

Brandon Vera has been impressive. Also Diego Sanchez has definately been amazing. Melvin Guillard has really been excellent and is a contender for the LW title.

Mike Swick. This guy has been steamrolling through opponents. He gassed toward the end of the Loaizo fight, but it was still a good victory. If nothing else the man always makes for an entertaining fight. Honorable mentions: "The Spider" and GSP. I'm not surprised that they both beat great champions, but how dominant they both were against these great champions.

Anderson Silva for rearranging Rich Franklin's face.

Georges St. Pierre for dominating Matt Hughes and making him look like an amateur.

Brandon Vera for taking out Frank Mir with ease.

Diego Sanchez for knocking out Joe Riggs.

P.S. Oh, and Shonie Carter for connecting that spinning backfist on Matt Serra.

Brandon Vera..obviously

The Lauzon Brothers..joe for his ko over jens, and dan hung in there pretty well with fischer for only having two weeks notice.

Diego Sanchez..he kinda got on my nerves, and i didnt think he was as good as he made himself out to be. but he proved me wrong this year, he deserves all the credit and respect in the world. he fought whoever they put in front of him, and made a name for himself in a very strong division.

Joe Lauzon! Nobody, including myself, gave this guy a chance against Jens Pulver! Who knew he knock Jens out?

GSP also surprised me! I thought Matt would have pulled onther upset and he kicked Matt Hughes a$$!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

all the "top guys" that everyone names didnt suprise me at all, cuz they are all good (GSP, Anderson, etc.) the guy who impressed/surprised me the most is def. Jason MacDonald, yes he only had one fight, but I had absolutly no idea he would make such short work out of short fuse.......also, Joe Lauzon for obvious reasons as well

I agree.

I was not impressed with GSP like some people were. He did not really do anything impressive. He took out Hughes big deal. Eeked out a win with Penn. Sure Hughes is good, but the way hughes went into it we knew what was going to happen.
I like Diego, but was surprised in his fight with Riggs.
Silva, I knew nothing about. I was surprised he took out Franklin like he did though. Leben made sense, but Franklin did not.
MacDonald was one that I was impressed with. Maybe he did not fight the champ, but he went in and looked great for all the longer it took him.
Vera also looked good, and I hope to see him fight Sylvia.
