You know, regardless of what you think of Shields, this statement is completely true. GSP has beaten Kos, Hughes, Serra, Penn, Alves, Fitch, Mayhem, Karo, Sherk, and Jay Hieron. He has cleared out the top ten aside from Shields (not all of those guys are top ten now, but they all were at one point). Shields is a legit top ten who has faced and beaten much better competition then Hardy or Swick have faced. Whether or not he is better then all of the dudes GSP has already wrecked is up for debate, but he is definetely the best welterweight that GSP hasnt already walked through.

Yeah, but regardless of what everyone thinks, this fight will not happen outside of the UFC. So Shields has to come to the UFC to get his shot. Not saying you were implying that. Just pointing it out.

True, but I think from the way that Shields talks and how desperate the UFC is starting to get for contenders that GSP hasnt already beaten, i feel pretty confident that he will be running to the UFC as soon as his Strikeforce contract is up. Jake Shields is one of those guys that legitimately wants to fight the very best guys in the world. He has fought a ton of the best guys from outside of the UFC and even beaten some good fighters that are currently in the UFC. I think he really does want very badly to fight GSP. I dont think he will be able to beat him, but im sure that he will find a way to fight him before it is all said and done.

I can definitely see Shields coming to the UFC one day. I would love it. He would really mix up the WW division. One of the best BJJ fighters in the world in the most wrestling stacked division in the world.

People dont give Shields wrestling enough credit. His takedowns arent the greatest thing in the world, but once he gets someone down they rarely get back up. He has phenomenal control. Im a huge Shields fan and would love to see if he could actually control GSP on the ground for any period of time. Like I said, I doubt it, but his ground game is more well equipped to deal with GSP then anyone else at welterweight (I know, bj is a world champ, but he is tiny compared to GSP).

I wasn't doubting his wrestling. I am just saying that it will be nice to get a great BJJ fighter in there to mix it up. See what the wrestlers do if they wrestle him down and he starts working his magic.

Shields is a great fighter - great wrestler, great jitz, good standup aswell. But seriously c'mon. You need someone with better than 'great' skills to take out GSP. Hughes - great wrestler, demolished by GSP (3rd fight - as I am talking about more the present day gsp), Alves - great striking, demolished by GSP, BJ - great BJJ, demolished by GSP (2nd fight).
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Shields v GSP, I'd definitely pay for that, but it'd be either a (late round) T/KO or UD for GSP.
Maybe Shields in a few years would give GSP a run, but thing is GSP is continuously evolving ... sorry WW division lmao.

Thanks to limba for this AWESOME sig
