They are freinds and training partners and it is also far from high praise, he gave him a compliment but its not like he said he could be a world champion. Infact I take this the opposite of everyone else here.

That is what I took out of it. He was speaking the truth Andy is a real black belt and has good defensive grappling especially his guard and is good enough to sub people every now and then. He wasn't saying he was some grappling god just that he knows what he is doing and when you are more than adequate in an area it isn't really a weakness unless you are fighting someone who is among the best in it. Andy has above average wrestling also he gets taken down mostly because of his aggressiveness in striking.

You guys will never be satisfied, if he knocks everyone out he must have a weak ground game, right? Because he got submitted like a decade ago before he even started training BJJ lol well not a decade ago but you get the point.

And if he submitted the majority of his opponents we would be attacking his stand up. Bottom line dude is well rounded and owns standing, clinching and on the ground.

I think he has a decent ground game, but I take everything this Brazillian fighters say about each other with a grain of salt. This dudes all seem to have mad man love for each other (dont know much about brazil in general, but they seem like a very proud, patriotic sort of people, not a bad thing).

i wonder tho, there must be differences in a master to master basis on what qualifies you for a black belt?? i think getting a black belt from a close personal friend will always leave ppl questioning it unless you enter touraments and prove your worth with the BJJ (like Penn did, many ppl questioned him getting his BB so fast, not anymore).

It's also like Greg Jacksons ground defense black belt... wtf does that mean?? How hard is it to get?? Is a black belt from Big Nog easier to get then from Caesar Gracie?? etc etc...

I love how people refer back to Anderson's submission losses. If anyone wants to tell me Anderson is the same fighter since then, you're just..well, mistaken to put it polite.

Definately! Also, his gg is slick! He subbed Henderson and Lutter, Marquardt couldn't do shit in Anderson's half guard and he also outwrestled Marquardt. Plus, Anderson hung in there agsainst Leites on the ground, Leites was never able to do anything really on the ground.

Yep, his wrestling is pretty underrated. The reverse he put on Cote and Marquardt was just a thing of beauty. Not to mention, stuffed Hendo's takedowns in the second round.

Like natas said, just because the guy is overwhelmingly good in one department doesn't make him "weak" in everything else. His BJJ is pretty good, and his wrestling is good..not terrible.

I'm quoting this for truth. Even if his core competency is striking the man still submitted Dan Henderson for goodness sake. He is well rounded. His aggressive striking does leave him open for takedowns. That's not a weakness, it is a trade-off... His BJJ is to the point he isn't afraid to go to the ground. If he didn't want to go to the ground with Leites... that's not cowardice, that is smart.

You want a flaw to pick at? The dude is human and anything can happen in the cage. That's about the best you have. I doubt anyone on this forum has the credentials to question the legitimacy of his black belt or skills in BJJ. For people who 'aren't impressed' with a professional fighter's abilities... why aren't you fighting in the UFC? People who find satisfaction in finding flaws in others are pathetic people.

Ugh, /rant off.
