The Ultimate Fighting Championship today officially announced five bouts for its Super Bowl weekend event in Las Vegas.

"UFC 109: Relentless" features a headliner between former UFC champions and current UFC Hall of Famers Randy Couture and Mark Coleman, and takes place Feb. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Other announced bouts include a co-headliner of Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago, as well as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Brandon Vera, Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen, and Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously reported all of the bouts (except Nogueira vs. Vera) as likely, though today's announcement assures they've all been signed.

"Couture vs. Coleman is one of those dream matchups that fans have always talked about," UFC president Dana White stated. "And when you consider that these are two of the greatest wrestlers turned mixed martial artists ever, and it's the first time that two guys who have already earned their way into the UFC Hall of Fame are fighting each other, this is not only an intriguing matchup but a historic one."

Couture (17-10 MMA, 14-7 UFC) most recently edged Vera via decision at UFC 105, which marked his return to the light heavyweight division. Coleman (16-9 MMA, 7-4 UFC), who's recently dealt with injuries, fights for the first time since his July upset of Stephan Bonnar.

In the pay-per-view co-headliner, Koscheck (14-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC), who recently submitted Anthony Johnson in the UFC 106 co-main event, meets Thiago (12-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) for the second time. Making his UFC debut, Thiago scored one of the year's biggest upsets with a knockout of Koscheck earlier this year.

Nogueira (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC), a PRIDE veteran, recently made his octagon debut and scored a TKO win over Luiz Cane. He now meets Vera (11-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC), who had posted back-to-back wins until his close unanimous decision loss to Couture last month.

Meanwhile, in a bout that could produce a top middleweight contender, Marquardt (29-8-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) looks for his fifth win in six fights when he takes on Sonnen (24-10-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC). Sonnen, a former top WEC middleweight contender who defeated then-champ Paulo Filho in a non-title affair, looks for his third straight win in the UFC.

Additionally, two veterans meet in a pivotal career bout when Serra (9-6 MMA, 6-6 UFC) takes on fellow welterweight Trigg (19-7 MMA, 2-4 UFC).

The latest UFC 109 card now includes:

Can't beliEve "Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller" they're on the prelims...but guess it's to draw in the people for the Spike prelim fights.

I like this fight but I'd much rather they give Lil Nog better competition. He knocked out a very underrated Luis Cane, who was arguably a top 10 lhw, and now he gets vera who has been very inconsistent in the UFC. I'd much rather he fight someone that could position him to a titleshot like forrest.

Wow u mean to tell me they couldnt have marquart vs belfort headline super bowl weekend? why the hell would the ufc put couture in the main event after his last showing (at 105) and the ratings for that event was a disaster..A lot of ppl thought he lost and they go and make him a headliner 3 months later?
 at thiago/koshcheck being co-main event status..Has there ever been such a sequel that no one gave a damn about but the ufc and koshcheck? seriously who asked for this...I know this isnt a popular opinion but I also think trigg/serra should be moved to pre-lim for maia/miller

These are some good points. It hadn't really occurred to me 'till I read your post that I'm not really interested in the main event being what it is. I'm far more excited for Sonnen/Marquardt (Though Belfort Marquardt would be far more enjoyable, this is definitely the next best thing) and Little Nog/Vera. Hopefully they make a couple of changes to this card to make the main events more attractive, especially it being on Superbowl weekend.

Couture/Coleman is a joke....

I am not going to pay $55+ to watch to this fight. Koshchek/Thiago should be interesting, but should not be the co-main event.

Other than Lil' Nog (vs) Vera :thumb02:... this card is not worth the price. I hope it will be free on Spike! (wishful thinking)

The undercard looks better than main-card. Why is Matt Serra still on the main-card??? and against Frank Trigg.:sarcastic12: Trigg's momement came & went when he fought Matt Hughes. That was like decades ago :confused02:

Good Lord, people. No, it's not the most attractive looking card, and it could use a bit more spice given it's being SuperBowl weekend, but my God, give the 'disappointing, pathetic, not worth blah, blah, blah' crap a rest. It's as simple as not ordering it.

The 'can't be pleased no matter what' attitude some of you have is getting ridiculously tiresome.

we're the paying public. we have a right to bitch and moan. believe me, i won't be ordering this shithole card or any others for quite a while if this is what's being offered. maybe we should just get on our knees and thank dana white for shitty cards between giving him blowjobs.

Wow this is a terrible card. Is anybody else wondering why the only young talented new fighter the UFC has been able to find in recent years is Jon Jones? Surely there must be good fighters out there who are capable of being champions; im tired of watching the old washed up guys like Liddell,Tito,Couture, Coleman, etc.
When all these guys retire, who is there to replace them?

Tito and Liddell are coaching the new TUF and then fighting each other, and Couture/Coleman are HEADLINING (yes, headlining!) a UFC fight card. And those were just examples of fighters, the list goes on beyond that. There is no hyperbole here, the UFC needs to bring in good young fighters like Jon Jones or else they are going to die off in the near future once their big names retire and get old.

Other then Nogueira-Vera and Marquardt-Soonen, it's kinf of average.
Coleman-Couture, it sounds like it's gonna be boring. This has the potential of being one of the most boring fights in recent time. If the fight doesn't end soon, both of them are gonna gas badly and then we could see a "huggin contest".

Nog-Vera though sounds interesting.
Nog has the edge.

Randy gassing? Randy hasn't gassed in the least since like... Rizzo I.

I'm SO pissed Maia is on the prelims. He crushed Sonnen not even that long ago and Sonnen's in one of the bigger main card fights. Plus Serra and Trigg haven't won a relevant match between the two of them in years.

I'm looking forward to all the fights kind of, but I don't believe a single one of them to be at all relevant to title contendership or anything. Except maybe the Rogerio fight.

Another 2 match ups announced...

http://mmajunkie.com/news/17124/ufc...nzig-vs-buchholz-and-hague-vs-tuchscherer.mma

Following today's official announcement of the "UFC 109: Relentless" main card, the Ultimate Fighting Championship today unveiled the night's preliminary card, as well.

The additions include a host of bouts previously reported by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) but also the unveiling of two new matchups: lightweights Mac Danzig vs. Justin Buchholz and heavyweights Tim Hague vs. Chris Tuchscherer.

UFC 109 takes place Feb. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card, including the main event of Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman, airs on pay-per-view.

Danzig (18-7-1 MMA, 2-3 UFC) finds himself in a must-win situation following his recent string of losses to Clay Guida, Josh Neer and Jim Miller. The former King of the Cage champion defeated Tommy Speer for the "The Ultimate Fighter 6" crown and then submitted Mark Bocek before the recent losing skid.

His opponent, Buchholz (8-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC), also desperately needs a victory. The one-time EliteXC fighter debuted with the UFC in 2008 and was submitted by Matt Wiman. Although he rebounded for a submission win over Corey Hill, he's since suffered stoppage losses to Terry Etim and Jeremy Stephens to drop to 1-3 in the UFC.

Hague (10-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC), meanwhile, hopes to erase the memory of his record-setting loss to Todd Duffee at UFC 102. Hague, a former KOTC fighter and kindergarten teacher who submitted Pat Barry in his octagon debut back in May, suffered the loss to Duffee in a record seven seconds, which set a promotional record for the UFC's quickest knockout.

Tuchscherer (17-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) looks for a legitimate UFC debut following a fiasco at UFC 102. The veteran fighter and Minnesota Martial Arts Academy team member suffered a brutal low blow from Gabriel Gonzaga and never fully recovered. He ultimately suffered a TKO loss. He only continued, he said, because no one could give him a straight answer about what would happen if he didn't.

"It's the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life," the 33-year-old fighter told MMAjunkie.com after the fight. "No one knew what was going on. Right now I think about it, and it's really screwed up because no one could tell me what was going on ... between the doctor and the referee. No one could tell me a straight answer on if I couldn't finish what would be the result. So I was out there and didn't know what to do."

The other officially announced bouts that we previously reported include middleweights Demian Maia (11-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) vs. Dan Miller (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC), lightweights Ronnys Torres (14-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Melvin Guillard (22-8-2 MMA, 5-4 UFC), lightweights Phillipe Nover (5-2-1 MMA, 0-2 UFC) vs. Rob Emerson (8-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC), and heavyweights Rolles Gracie (3-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) vs. Mostapha Al-Turk (6-5 MMA, 0-2 UFC)

The latest UFC 109 card now includes:

MAIN CARD

* Mark Coleman vs. Randy Couture
* Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago
* Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Brandon Vera
* Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
* Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller
* Justin Buchholz vs. Mac Danzig
* Melvin Guillard vs. Ronnys Torres
* Tim Hague vs. Chris Tuchscherer
* Rob Emerson vs. Phillipe Nover
* Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk
