TUF 10 Finale Medical Suspensions
The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale medical suspensions go to nine fighters
by Dann Stupp on Dec 08, 2009 at 1:40 pm ET
The Nevada State Athletic Commission issued medical suspensions to a total of nine fighters from The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, and five competitors could be out of action for six months or more.
NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer today emailed the list of suspensions to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
Matt Hamill, Matt Mitrione, Darrill Schoonover, James McSweeney and Justin Wren all could be out of action until June 4 (or later) but can be cleared early by a doctor. The ailments range from a shoulder dislocation to a possible hand injury to a likely eye injury.
The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale took place this past weekend, Dec. 5, at The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas and aired on Spike TV.
As MMAjunkie.com reported on Sunday, Hamill suffered a dislocated shoulder in his loss to Jon Jones in the night's co-main event. Hamill ultimately picked up the win via disqualification (because of Jones' illegal downward elbow strikes), but Hamill dislocated shoulder during the takedown that set up the exchange. Hamill's camp initially feared a broken clavicle.
The full list of medical suspensions included:
Brendan Schaub (KO loss to Roy Nelson): Suspended until Jan. 20 with no contact until Jan. 5 for precautionary reasons
Matt Hamill (DQ victory over Jon Jones): Suspended until June 4 due to possible left-shoulder injury, though he can be cleared early by an orthopedic doctor; even if cleared, suspended until Feb. 5 with no contact until Jan. 20
Marcus Jones (KO loss to Matt Mitrione): Suspended until Feb. 5 with no contact until Jan. 20 for precautionary reasons

Darrill Schoonover (KO loss to James McSweeney): Suspended indefinitely due to a possible eye injury until cleared by an ophthalmologic doctor; even if cleared, suspended until Feb. 5 with no contact until Jan. 20
