Kenny had zero striking training before that fight (didn't get a striking coach until 2004) and if I'm not mistaken, Kenny got his Genjitsu black belt long after that fight.

But we can wait till Diego loses and see Kenny vs Diego perhaps?

His overall MMA game has improved faster I'd say, yes, but not his grappling game. He is a lot better striker now, but his grappling has remained relatively the same. And idk what the hell Genjitsu is, I only hear about that in Anime mangas, so idk what your source is for that. He is a Bjj black belt under Roberto Maia though, and he received it in late 2003.

I think you're underestimating Diego's GG Toxic.

He's not going to out-jitz BJ but his BJJ's better than just 'above average'.

His wrestling's also better than average.

Diego has "overachieved" because he is mentally tough?

What a ridiculous statement. The great players in every sport are mentally tough.

I'm not sure if you can really say Diego is an overachiever. He beat all the guys he was suppose to beat. He hasn't done anything that wasn't really expected of him imo.

However I do think that BJ's skill, athleticism and technique is at a level higher than Diego. So I guess if he does beat bj he would have overachieved.

Similar can be argued against BJ Penn. He's a lazy fighter who has gotten farther than he should have based on his talent. See what I did there?

How can you blast someone for working hard? Diego's mental toughness is as much a skillset as BJ's ability to learn technique at a faster level. It will all depends whose skillset will take them further. I personally think Diego is way focused right now and will break BJ's will.

BJ's statement that Diego is more mentally tough/ aggressive than technically good is true. But sounds more like praise than an insult.

All the people saying that Diego is gonna take this realize that BJ has not lost at 155 in 7 years right?

BJ at 155 is a whole different animal, I just can't see any 155er breaking Penn mentally.

I agree, there really isn't a 155'er that can take BJ down and pound on him until he quits. Maybe Maynard can put him on his back due to his size, but he'll probably get swept and submitted pretty quickly or KO'd on the feet.

I am really looking forward to this fight on Saturday just because Diego pushes the pace and has a very solid chin even though skill for skill BJ is better everywhere.

Toxic for some reason or another doesn't like certain fighters, therefore he also really criticises and under rates their fighting ability. Average striking at best, hmm no he is definitely above average. He is also an excellent grappler and his wrestling is far from just above average. Being mentally tough for all your fights doesn't get you as far as Diego has come, he has the skills to go with it.

Do i see him beating Penn? Nope, but he is definitely going to put up a better fight than Kenny Florian who like BJ said him self, "he just didn't want to fight" and ran away from Penn when ever he tried to engage, this wont be the case with Diego.
