"We just got back to Denver from Montreal and I heard my fight was announced. I was offered the fight weeks ago but couldn't say anything until it was announced. I will be fighting Chael Sonnen on February 6 in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay. Chael is a tough wrestler and is coming off a win against Yushin Okami. I thought I would get a title fight or a fight with Henderson, but neither fight was available, so I accepted the fight with Sonnen. Honestly I was upset at first. Why should I be fighting a guy that lost to Demian Maia three fights ago? After I thought about it a while, I changed my mind. Sonnen is a great wrestler with decent striking and I don't want to wait to fight. Now I am pumped to fight and training has been going great! GSP is in town along with Rashad and all the guys. Let's do this!"
Former number one middleweight contender, Nate Marquardt, was not too thrilled at first with his upcoming showdown with Chael Sonnen at UFC 109 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010. "The Great" was hoping to get another crack at division champion Anderson Silva or an eliminator match against newly-signed Strikeforce acquisition, Dan Henderson, but had to settle for the Team Quest stand out. Over time, it appears the Marquardt has warmed to the main card match ... have you?

Nate is gonna crush Chael.....

Yeah... this should be a gimme win for Nate with how he has looked over the past year or so.

I dont know if this is that much of a gimme win. I dont like Sonnen as a person or a fighter. He came off like a giant chode after he got tapped by Filho. However, he reminded the mma world how good of a wrestler he is against Okami in his last fight. Nate has decent takedown defense, but I almost guarantee you it is no better then Okami's. Silva was able to take Nate down at one point. Sonnen will definetely be able to take Nate down. Sonnen does have some questionable sub defense, but his recent sub losses are to some of the best bjj guys in the game. I think this fight will actually be fairly competitive.

I think Nate's wrestling will be enough to keep it standing, where he will have a considerable advantage.

Also, don't forget that 15 of Nate's 29 wins have come from subs, including a submission over Jeremy Horn. Yeah, Horn has been past his prime for a while now, but he still has his sub skills.

Chael doesn't have a chance in this match. I'm not even sure if I give him a punchers chance. I feel like he could hit Nate with his biggest shot right on his jaw and Nate would just stare at him. All sorts of a bad fight for Chael, but it should definitely add some highlights to Nate's reel.

I love nate as a fighter, and except for silva I think he beats all MWs, but silva is on another planet as a fighter and makes great fighters look poor.... nate would still be destroyed

Ya I totally agree with you, but if thats what nate is motivated to do and he has the confidence to try...once he's earned his shot its only fair no? He has definately improved since the last time they faught, I still don't know if he'd win but if thats what nate wants, thats what I want because I love him as a fighter and would love to see him push himself to his limits and see what he can do

I really want to see Vitor vs Marquardt and Marquardt vs Silva. Like everyone's saying, this should be an easy fight for Marquardt but... what if he loses? This is MMA, and Sonnen looked great against Okami.

That would mess up Marquardt's career pretty bad, because then no way would he have time to fight Silva before Silva's 3 fight contract was up. This is a pretty big fight, career-wise for Marquardt and I hope he doesn't take it lightly.
