Huh? According to the rules, Jones shouldn't have been DQd. According to the rules, the commission has the authority to overturn the ref's ruling, which again, violates the rules.

I totally agree, the fight was over long before the illegal blows happened. The ref should have stopped the fight because Matt was was getting beat up bad. I dont get Mazzagatti he stops fights way to soon or he lets them go way to long. Hes so inconsistent that i have to agree with Dana White, hes a terrible referee!!!

what you mean the rules?? there is already another topic discussing this so I hate to bring it up here. But he could not continue because of his shoulder injury on the takedown, not the illegal elbows.

I say make it a no contest. I mean the same thing happened to Fedor, cut by and illegal elbow and unable to continue. You have to name a winner so I think Jones plain and simple won that fight, it wasn't even the 12-6 elbow that cut Hamill and it was a dislocated shoulder from the takedown that made him unable to continue. Both great and classy fighters and both will move on from this and have great careers. It really doesn't matter a previous poster said Jon Jones will most assuredly learn from this and not use 12-6 elbows again. By the way, the rule is stupid because a horizontal elbow is more effective (and more destructive) than the 12-6 elbow. The rule should only be there for elbows to the back during a takedown which would leave a fighter possibly crippled for life. But to the face a 12-6 elbow is actually not as bad as the legal horizontal elbow because you cant generate as much force.

It's probably because ol' Stevie poo bets on the fights he's reffing and tries to stop it as soon as "his" guy is winning, or too late when "his" fighter is losing in hopes that he will recover... thats just my personal opinion though...

Not quite the same situation. A 'no contest' would be a decent compromise here. That wasn't an option in the Fedor fight due to the particular rules of that tournament.

I dont know what Mazzagattis problem is but he is in the wrong profession. He needs to think about being an umpire for teeball or a hall moniter. I really dislike that dude!

...As Rogan said "We've never seen anybody handle Matt on the ground like that". JBones dominated the match. Even if he didn't land those illegal elbows, he would have pounded Matt out anyway...

...Steve made the right call, plain & simple. You can't look at it any other way. A 12/6 elbow is illegal in MMA, bottom line. Matt's face was so smashed, he didn't even move. Herb Dean & Mario Yamasaki would have done the same...
