You guys crack me up. Wanderlei is the one who has been steadily slowing down not Chuck. I didnt think Chuck looked much different than usual last night. It looked pretty similar to the Horn fight. If anything I thought he looked even more gassed in the Horn fight. I still think Chuck would beat Silva but it would be close.

Chuck hasn't really proven himself against amazing fighters. He can't beat Quinton Jackson and Rampage lost to Wanderlei. Yes, yes totally different fighters I agree. But still, Chuck hasn't really impressed me ever tbqh, he's good but he is easily decimated in Pride.

I wouldn't go that far, but the gap has certainly been narrowed, if not eliminated.

Rampage beat the shit out of him convincingly, yes, but Chuck beat the shit out of Mezger and Overeem also who are very good fighters and strikers. He's beaten people in PRIDE he didn't do that bad over there really. People just seem to forget he knocked out Mezger and Alistair.

What I think would happen is that Wandy would rush in and Chuck would have to catch him with a nice hook as he is moving backwards before Wandy gets his hands on him. So I think Chuck has the advantage in the octogan and Wanderlei in Prides ring.

But of course the fight could go either way no matter what rules or ring considering both are such deadly strikers. And if anyone says either fighter will definitely win or has no chance, well then your an idiot and very ignorant.

chuck has never seen anyone with wandys pace so i think it would give him problems i dont see wandy giving chuck enough time in the fight to get his timing down also he didnt dominate overeem he made contact with one lucky haymaker i think overeem was winning the standup besides that but thats how he fights

Liddell/Jackson first...

Sometimes it's true that style differences make the fight. Other times it's not... as in when a Griffin fights a Bonner and their styles are similar.

The Iceman/Rampage fight is a good example of a fight where style makes a difference, though that's not the whole story. Chuck is as tough as he's ever been. He's the smartest, most emotionless fighter in the UFC and maybe the world these days. He doesn't get rattled, he doesn't get nervous, and he has become probably the best in the world at finding his range just outside of an opponents danger zone. His countering skills are the best that exist and his intelligence should not be underrated. This guy knows exactly what he has to do to win a fight, does not get impatient, and is well conditioned (despite what some say about his appearance). I agree he was as fresh as Tito late in the fight.

His sprawl at 205 is also the best in the world arguably. Though it must be qualified by who he has fought. Yes, Tito is tough, as are many others Chuck's fought.

The way through Chuck these days, if possible, is a bull rush that favors speed and meaningful offense. You can't wave at the guy and then hope to shoot. He's too smart for that, too accurate a puncher for that, and his hands are too heavy for that. You also can't be nervous to shoot and dive in from the outside like Tito did.

Couture's commentary was fabulous, and right on the money, by the way. You know, that guy has serious skills as a broadcaster. He was a great champion and is a great guy, but his best years might still lie ahead in the booth.

Chucks's weakness (if it still exists) comes exactly from a guy like Rampage excels. Say what you want about Tito's ground and pound... Jackson's brute strength and fearless frontal assault is unlike any 205 pounder the UFC has seen. His style is ferocious and unwavering. You can't dance around Chuck and hope to find a soft spot sometime in the 3rd. You've gotta run him into the fence and knock him down quick or slam him to the mat. But he's strong so you've gotta be stronger. Not many (maybe noone?) in the UFC at LHW are strong enough and ballsy enough to rush in there and overwhelm him while risking a knockout.

Rampage has done it before and his savagery gives him a good chance to do it again. If he starts to dance with Chuck he's gonna get dipped. But, knowing Rampage he's not gonna dance... He could definitely overwhelm Chuck and do serious damage. Chuck's cardio could be torqued early, too, if Rampage can get his hands on him and give him a good spill or two to the mat. Chuck's motor can be run down, I think, when someone strong and controlling gets on him. Chuck's technical defense is good on the ground, but the Rampage ground and pound has plenty of gas to destroy him if Rampage isn't caught with a good lick coming in.

Jackson has gotta get close and do it quickly - like in the 1st or 2nd round. No surprise there, though. Rampage is gonna head straight at Chuck and if he gets inside without getting hurt Chuck will not have the success he's had with other UFC light heavyweights in forcing the action to feet... maybe even if he's driven into the fence... The fence helps him, but I don't think it helps him enough if Rampage can get close. Rampage is a different animal when he gets his hands on you then other guys. Chuck's kicks are great too, from the outside, but he doesn't seem to throw many knees. Then again, he's not in the clench much either these days... If Rampage gets close a couple of times... Maybe even once Chuck could be in big trouble...

I strongly suspect Chuck will train very differently for a Rampage fight than the Tito fight. While their styles can sound somewhat similar, Tito's strength and brute force don't nearly match Rampage.

Chuck can definitely win a fight with Rampage. He's got world class skills and I think is the most intelligent fighter there is. They've both changed since the last fight, and Chuck is definitely amongst the top 4 light heavyweights in the world. He might be number 1. Then again, he hasn't seen the likes of Rampage for a good number of years now...

I say it could go either way, but if I had to bet... I'd need to see the reactions post fight-announcement...
