To apply the same logic you are using....
I mean no disrespect but do not get what you are saying? What logic am I using when I say you can do well in MMA with good TDD and striking?

Anyways, I just think it is funny that these threads get that much "love" over a comment some boxer says. I train both MMA and boxing and this type of talk never enters our gyms. Not in Detroit...or Windsor ON.

But this means if the fight were to go to the ground, Machida would be comfortable there as well whereas someone like Toney would be complelely out of his element.

Basically you keep mentioning Machida as a BJJ practioner that doesnt really use BJJ....well he did very often in the past.....NOT the point...

My analogy was that Chuck has wrestling background but really isnt much of a wrestler, hell he has a purple in Jitz....so I just dont understand your reasoning for that statement there are many fighters that dont use skill sets they have...

gotcha. I guess my logic is that you don't necessarily need to use it to be successful if you have good striking and TDD. That is how I am "getting by" in MMA as I was primarily a boxer and former high school wrestler. I know very very little of bjj (learning) but am doing pretty well because of the TDD I have aquired which wasn't very hard.

Yes you can do ok with boxing and good TDD. But like I said earlier, what happens when someone does take you down? If they have a great ground game. Then your boxing and TDD is useless now because they both do nothing once the fight has hit the mats.

Dude thats awesome that you made the transition to MMA, boxing for me is where it started in terms of man on man combat...I mean honestly you can have good stand up per say, but a true boxer can pick good stand up apart.....

The fact you switched already givers you a huge bonus in the striking area, and if your TDD is good, its time to start grappling classes...LOL
