Alves’ return slated for UFC 111

Former welterweight contender Thiago Alves will make his return to action at UFC 111 on March 27 at the Prudential Center in Newark. NJ.

Alves suffered a PCL tear in training for a bout with Jon Fitch at UFC 107, but has recently begun training again, according to his representative, Malki Kawa of First Round Management.

An opponent for the American Top Team standout is not confirmed at this time.

Alves, 26, last appeared at UFC 100, where he lost a title bid against dominant champion Georges St-Pierre in a five-round war. Afterwards, he booked the fight with Fitch to avenge a 2006 loss to the American Kickboxing Academy fighter.

Kawa said Alves wants to get a rematch with St-Pierre as soon as possible. He’ll likely have to get a couple strong performances in first. Kawa could not confirm whether Fitch was the immediate opponent on the horizon.

I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be fighting Ricardo Almeida.

If this is the case he's gonna tap if he can't defend Ricardos takedown.

I couldent believe Fitch vs Alves couldent be done!! That would´ve been a sick fight for sure.

Anyways, iam glad Alves is healed up and ready to give it, so Ricardo Almeida or whoever, watch out!

He stuffed takedowns from Koscheck and Hughes, he was also able to get back up after GSP took him down. Almeida is about to be in way over his head.

Thiago will destroy Almeida imo. Ricardos TD's aren't good enough to take ALves down.

I think tht Almeida will have his hands full as well. Alves is a big WW and is very strong as well. I have been very impressed with his TDD. (Not counting GSP) I am excited to see him come back and I hope that he does well!
