Reffing

First off I don't think anything was stopped too early, but what the hell is going on with some of this reffing.

When I saw Mario Yamasaki in the Ortiz vs Liddell fight I thought, oh shit wheres Big John. Not that I do not like Mario, but why didn't they have the best ref they had in for the main event? Which is also a title fight. And you didn't get the great "Lets get it on!" from Mario. I just think you need Big John for the main event, anyone else agree?

And what the hell goes on in Herb Dean's head? After Andrei kicked Cruz wile he was on the ground Herb tried to stand them up. What was he thinking? The striker violates the rules, so he is going to punish the grappler and stand them up, just doesn't make sense to me.

Herb is a pretty good ref, but whenever I see him I get a little nervous. I always think he is going to mess something up. He seems to do it quite often. Sometimes I think it may be time for him to go.

Yeah I think it was a bad night all together for reffing. Herb has done a few things that make me scratch my head. The NSGC picks who refs dont they? John did two other fights that night. Or maybe they are just getting other guys used to the big fights so when Johny retires they don't all freak out.

I'm pretty sure it was Mario Yamasaki in the Tito/Liddell match... but yeah, pretty bad reffing from UFC, Pride, and K-1 last night.

Yeah it was Mario Yamasaki...

Herb Dean isn't so bad in my opinion, just needs to take some......referee training and reread the rules then he will be all set. :P

Yeah, I didn't understand why Steve Mazzagatti kept separating Macdonald and Leben when they were in the clinch.

Yeah, I know the commentators said that it was because Leban had his hands in Macdonald's eyes, but he did it so many times. MacDonald was definitely trying hard to take Leben down.

When Herb didn't stand them up and then didn't give them a clear sign of when to restart on the ground I thought it was just a mixup. Arlovski basically got a free shot but it was as much Cruz's fault as Dean's. But when Herb let AA hold himself up with one hand on the fence and rain down blows with his other hand just after to finish the fight that was it for me. Herb is not a good official.

Overall I think the reffing is pretty decent but there has been some questionable decisions...Big John is defintely the best of the bunch.

Yeah, but think about that for a second.

If you are a referee, are you going to pay attention to Arlovski's left hand which is not pummeling the shit out of Cruz's head? Dean had to make sure that Arlovski was not hitting the back of Cruz's head and to stop the fight when it was necessary.

That pissed me off too, he didn't say when they could start he just backed up. But Cruz should have been ready. And I didn't even see AA's left hand holding onto the fence, I was just watching his right hand because I thought Herb was about to do something when he was hitting him on top of the head.

And you guys are right it was Mario Yamasaki, I always get those two confused, I'll edit that.
