Chuck Liddell Tore His ACL

I heard that Chuck came into this fight with Tito with a torn ACL. Has anyone else heard that?

No that sounds like crap. Chuck was too good at keeping tito and moving laterally to have a torn acl. He also took a ton of leg kicks really well to have a torn acl. But that is just from watching I haven't heard one way or the other.

Its very possible to compete with a torn ACL, especially being in such great shape. It would depend on how long ago he tore it and if there was any other damage done. Your going to get a solid 2 weeks of heavy swelling from tearing your original ACL. If he had an ACL reconstruction in the past, it might not swell at all. As long as he didnt lose and muscle mass in his leg, mainly his hamstring, it would stay stable enough that he would be able to fight.

Sounds unlikely to me. IF that was the case then I'm sure they would have rescheduled the fight. Chuck would not go in to fight Tito, who he hates, and give him an advantage due to injury.

There's mention of it here.

Seems he appeared hurt during training while a reporter was there.

Torn ACL or not, he looked impressive stuffing Ortiz's takedowns.

I kind of doubt he was injured prior to the fight ...

Edit: Hmm, well I'll be damned. >_>

Thanks for that fin. Rep!

Here is the quote where it mentions it.

-The Iceman retained his 205-pound title by crumpling Ortiz to the canvas in the third round and then whaling away until referee Mario Yamasaki stepped in at 3:59. Ortiz came ready to fight, but ultimately was unable to hurt Liddell or withstand his brutal punching power. Liddell stopped Ortiz in the second round when they first met in April 2004. The latest win came despite a Las Vegas Review-Journal report Sunday that Liddell tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his knee in training three weeks before the fight. "I was impressed with Tito's performance but Chuck Liddell is the man," White said.

So even with a serious injury Chuck managed to retain his title. Way to go Chuck.

Im not a doctor, but isn't the ACL the main ligament for balance and mobility? Would the UFC doctors even allow the fight to happen if this was true?

Most likely he hid it from the doctors. Remember Ken Shamrock fought with a torn ACL in his first fight with Tito.
