If Thiago won the fight in convincing fashion, I would react the same way to someone calling for a rematch on behalf of Rashad. In my opinion, it is insulting to the fighter who clearly won. You are in essence saying that Rashad did not win well enough, does not deserve the W, and must do it again.

Also, how is "almost knocking his opponent out" any different from almost submitting his opponent? Neither really counts for anything. He didn't knock his opponent out, and that is the fact here.

I also have a problem with your saying that Thiago can make enough changes to his game plan to beat Rashad, because it sounds like you are implying that Rashad learned nothing from their fight, would implement no changes, and return to the cage and execute the exact same plan when he has stated that he made mistakes after his take downs.

Rashad proved that he is the superior fighter, so he moves up on the ladder, and Thiago moves down. Thiago now has more to prove than Rashad. Should Thiago win some and Rashad lose some, then they would obviously meet again, but until such time, I find any suggestion of a rematch disrespectful to Rashad Evans.
Thanks for responding and keeping this thread alive and strong. In fact, we are number one on the front page.

You are welcome, but that is not my goal. I just do not agree with your calling for a rematch in this particular case. Also, even though I am defending my position with vigor, I do not hold any hostility towards you personally. I am also a fan of Thiago Silva, I just believe that he clearly lost his match with Rashad.

Silva would need better TDD for this match to go any differently. I wouldn't mind seeing this rematch down the road but we're gonna have to see advancement from Thiago first.

I will never join the Evans bandwagon. Give him the Iceman again and I bet he gets knocked out .

I bet the iceman would get knocked out too! But seriously it wasn't that great of a fight to begin with= no reason for a rematch.

Thiago was going in with that injury. Major interruption to his TDD.

I'd like to see a rematch as well.

Comparable to Nog's staph shit v. Mir IMO, which is to say it's just an excuse. Mir annihilated Nog though where Evans v. Silva was a relatively close fight but stil. Thiago will never beat Evans until he improves his TDD.

Never beat Evans? Rashad wins....

over the hill Chuck,

A TUF fighter for the title,

Drew with Tito (who had an injured back)

Stephan Bonnar and Michael who have never seen a UFC title.

He's on the same level as Thiago. Thiago had an injured back it was a well known fact.

Try doing anything with an injured back...

Do you mean like dancing?

Davis also insisted he was not making any excuses for Silva's loss and admitted Evans would likely have been able to execute his strategy even with his opponent at 100 percent.

"Personally, due to the difference in the level of Rashad's wrestling, I don't think that in the takedown department, [being at 100 percent] would have made that much of a difference," Davis said. "People don't care, really, but the truth is the truth. This kid came in and he wasn't in top shape because of an injury, and he still took a very tough fight. He went at it, and he survived for those two rounds."

I don't personally know the extent of Thiago's injury, however, it did not prevent him from dancing like Anderson Silva, or almost knocking out a former LHW UFC champion.

When my back was hurt, it took me twenty minutes to get out of bed and put my feet on the floor. When I got to the doctor's office, it took three men to help me get out of the car. It also took another twenty minutes for me to walk from the examining room to the x-ray machine, which was just down the hall. Just sayin'.

If thiago's back was really hurt, I think those takedowns would have at least made him wince or something. He just looked pissed off after the 233rd takedown.

Plus, the range of motion when he clocked Rashad with that long range right hand would have stopped him in his tracks if any of his back was hurt.

If his back really was injured, he didn't feel it so I still don't think it's justified. And Rashad would dominate in the rematch much like he did in the first fight. But a rematch, realistically, will never happen.
