Should the UFC view it differently, I mean in boxing you have 10-12 rounds, in the UFC its 3-5 so if a fighter starts off slow he is down 1-0, which is similar to being down 4-0 in a 12-round boxing match. Just does not seem right? What do you guys think?

10-8 rounds are still possible which basically puts you down 2 rounds. So it all evens out.

Im not sure how to fix it, but I know I don't really care for it the way it is. I wouldn't mind KO or Tapout being the only way to end it, but that would never make the mainstream.

In boxing the 10 point must works because of the amount of rounds but in mma with fewer rounds u need a tighter scoring system that allows the judges more ways to score a round. i completely agree with the article recently posted on the site about the half point system. If judges could score rounds 10-10, 10-9.5, 10-9, 10-8.5 and so on it would alliviate most of the scoring problems.

I like that idea. 1/2 pts would work better IMO.

I like the concept of the 1/2 point system, I just think it still leaves room for debate and controversy. As the sport continues to evolve and fighters are more well rounded, I think too the criteria for judging must change. Recently we have had many bouts that have put the judges under scrutiny, however IMO under the current system of judging all of the decisions have validity to them. I think Big John said it that part of the judging should be damage done, yet that too can have cause for controversy. For example, fighters that tend to cut easily would be seen as damage, however in many cases it really doesn't effect their fighting (Guida, Griffin, etc.) Another issue is that TD's and sub attempts are held with more regard than escapes. An example of this (although it had no bearing on the outcome)was Sam Stout was caught in a serious Kimora by Lauzon which he escaped from, I wonder if the escape had any role in the scoring decision for that fight.

I think its abundantly clear that something needs to be done, we can only hope it is done soon.

I agree that 1/2 points would mitigate some of the problems present with only having 3-5 rounds.

I simply know that something needs to be changed. Hell, I like the system pride used. It seems condusive to more exciting fights, because the emphasis was on finishing fights, and not points.

I like 1/2 pts but not 10-10s.

There's always somebody who (at least) slightly edges it imo
