Is Big Nog passed his best.?
I have noticed that since his loss to Mir people on this forum dont think much of Nogueira's skills. Please give your opinions on him and whether or not you think he is still a title contender.
In my opinion his poor performance against Mir was largely due to the Staph infection that had him hospitalised for a week before the Mir fight which probably contributed to him being so damn slow in that fight. Nog was also complaining about a teared meniscus in his knee which couldnt have helped. Also to be fair to him I think he looked great against Couture. His boxing looked crisp and powerful, his head movement looked improved (although he still took some good shots from Randy) and his ability to sweep Randy from his guard was incredible. I for one would love to see him re-match Mir to see if he can redeem himself.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: Just to clear things up guys. I put Mir/Lesnar because I take them as the top 2 Heavyweights and Nog as number 3. I didnt think it through too well because I just assumed that if he can contend with one of them he can keep up with the other.

I didn't find an option I like on the poll. I said no, but I do think he used to be very good.

voted for "Yes. But he will never be as good as Mir/Lesnar."
I think he has slowed down and his chin has weakened on last couple of years, but I do think he is a top 5 HW still. Even though he is still a tier 1 fighter I think Mir would kill him standing again and Brock wouldeither drop him like he dropped Herring or bash him on ground like he bashed Mir. Alot of good fights for Nog still but Mir and Brock aren't 2 of them.

I don't think he has the drive that Mir has to get back to the top, hes still a great fighter but I don't see him ever reclaiming the belt.

How could he be as good, he looks like he has been through a wood chipper. Tough as nails but stamina, mental functions, and skills don't evolve and quicken when that much scar tissue has been built. BTW beating Couture now does not even get you a cu-pie doll

Why is Couture written off? He gave Lesnar his hardest fight yet and was winning before the lucky back-to-the-head punch. He controlled Vera nearly the whole fight and before that, he schooled Gonzaga and Sylvia.

I voted that he is still a good fighter but not as good as Mir/Lesnar. Only because it seemed to be the most reasonable option.
But I have a problem with that........
Big Nog is the second greatest fighter in the HW division, right under Fedor. Just look at his resume. Not too many fighters have a resume like that with only a few loses.
Nog in the overall view of MMA is a better fighter than Mir and Lesnar because of his unbelievable record for the amount of great fighters he has fought.
But his better days are past him and I dont believe he could beat Mir or Lesnar at this point of time in his career.

How the hell was Couture winning against Lesnar? Also that shot was right on the temple and completely legal.
He leaned against Vera for the whole fight.
How long ago was Gonzaga/Sylvia?
