Nate Diaz: 'I really don't think I'm going to stay at 155'

Quote:
Props: GracieFighter.com
Quoteworthy:

"I fought like garbage and I'm sorry to my fans for my performance. I was hesitant about throwing hard punches because I kept thinking he was going to go for a takedown. It looked like I was knocked down in the second but actually he stepped on my foot and when I tried to back out I slipped. I really don't think I'm going to stay at 155lbs. I don't make enough money to have to drop this much weight so I'd like to fight at 170 and only go to 55's every once in awhile. You know if you look at his face compared to mine right now you'd think there was no way he beat me in a fight but I've never been too popular with the judges."

A disappointed Nate Diaz reacts to his split decision loss to Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night 20 from the Patriot Center in Fairfax on Jan. 11. The Cesar Gracie-disciple was content to throw leather with "The Bully" and despite turning up the heat in round three, was unable to do enough in the judges eyes to take home the victory. Diaz talks about a potential move up to 170-pounds, but is there a spot for him in such a crowded division? And would a few extra pounds make the lanky submission specialist more --or less dangerous?

Don't think he will do well at 170 . his striking is awful he got no wrestling only got good bjj skills . imo he should go to SF or WEC .
Although This move did well to His bro . so we'll see .

When I saw the title I thought he must be going down to featherweight because the guy is like a twig. He seams way too weak to be fighting at WW.

How could he ever compete with someone like Anthony Johnson or Kos or Alvez, im not even going to mention GSP. He had better start lifting weights or something.

I agree he did fight like garbage. He should stay at 155 till he hits his late 20's and then move up. He still looks like a 17 year old.

if he can build some muscle it might not be such a bad idea. then his punches might have something behind them. He always seemed a bit too tall for lightwieght IMO - but hes got good jits so hopefully it works out for him

because he has been around seemingly so long alot of ppl forget he is only 24. he obv needs to work on his standup but if he plans to move up he better pack on some muscle, he seems weak for a LW nevermind a WW.

That retard has been fighting way under his natural weightclass the whole time IMO.

That kind of frame... just isn't suited for fighting. Assuming he cuts from ~165ish, he needs to put on twenty or so pounds of muscle to cut to WW and be intimidating.

The guy's weak physique killed him in the fight against Maynard, Maynard was not at ALL threatened by his striking because he simply doesn't have the power in his hands or legs (sort of like BJ not scared of Florian).

Very few times is packing on muscle and moving up a weight class a good idea, but this is certainly one time where it is.

Yeah I was thinking he would drop down to FW too instead of moving up. If he can bulk up to 180 or something I can see him doing ok at WW, but a guy who walks at around 160-165 would get absolutely killed by the 190-200 pounders in WW.

I also was thinking he was talking about moving to FW before I read the article.

I don't see Nate being successful in the WW division.

Nate needs 20lbs. of solid muscle to compete at WW, and he just isn't going to be able to do that.

I'm also not sure he'll be able to drop the weight to get to FW. He's too tall.

Personally, I'd love to see him try WW so I can watch his cocky ass get KTFO.

He can easily pack on enough muscle to fight at 170, his frame is fine.

The same way his brother could keep going up as well, they are very lean.

I can't believe people still think you can't gain 20lbs of muscle and be effective! If you need a recent example look at Mir.

Nate is very, very skilled, and over some time he can be every bit as good at 170 as he is at 155. Then again, I have no idea who well he would go through the process, I'm just saying, he CAN, and is able to do it.

Plus, his punches are just annoying at 155, and with more power he can have a much better chance at finishing.
