I hope BJ can stay motivated, with a weak line of contenders coming up and having desrtroyed arguably the #2 and 3 LW's in the UFC with little or no difficulty in his last two fights its hard to see the contender by process of elimination as a threat. Edgar is a solid fighter but he is possibly the second best boxer in the LW division but without knock out power he will lose 10 times out of 10 against the #1 boxer in the division.

Not Happy about this whole Dhabi thing.

There was an article on CNN the other day reveling exactly how business is done in Dhabi, basically if you are connected to the royal family or you are part of it, you will get away with anything, even video taped torture.

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/me...ture.aquittal/

Basically a prince sheikh tortured a man for 8 hours and video tapped it, and he was acquitted of charges because of the "medication he was on caused him to do it defense". The defense also claimed the video tape was some sort of forged CIA film to setup the prince. Some of the torture included burning of the mans testicles.

On top of that there are many reports of human rights violations, using slave labor, and other injustice that goes on in Dhabi.

I can totally see fights being fixed/ decisions going the wrong way especially if any of the fighters are connected to the royal family over there.

Dana and the UFC ****ed up big time getting them selves involved with this horrible country. Sure the money and business seems right, but I believe this will back fire hard in their face.

I don't get it.

This fight is about as interesting as it is for Gray to fight him, or anyone else.. but he doesn't deserve the title shot over Gray.
I was thinking the same exact thing.

Dana White confirmed that Edgar will receive the next 155-pound title shot against champion BJ Penn. There had been talk of Gray Maynard facing Penn next, but in a video interview shot Tuesday in New York City, White said he didn't think Maynard was 100% ready to fight for the title just yet.

Edgar has looked far more impressive in his last few fights than Maynard has tbf. I don't agree with either getting a shot, but I'd say Edgar's more ready than Maynard is. Maynard's had 2 somewhat disputable decisions against Diaz and Huerta, Edgar dominated Sherk, comfortably beat Franca and finished the unbeaten Veach.

Frankie is a good guy, a very good fighter and all but even if by some miracle he and BJ form a stalemate on the feet if BJ takes it to the ground in say the second or third how will Frankie fair there.....not very long im thinking.

I must say i think BJ is already in Gray Maynards head, watching some of the interviews he just doesnt seem to really want to fight him (not that i could blame him)

I've said this in another thread, but all things considered, right now Edgar has the "best" chance of competing with BJ. Notice I did not say beat. The reason is simple . . . boxing. Maynard's boxing looks horrible. My opinion is that he decided to box Nate because he was afraid to take him down and get submitted like he did the first time. Well, if he is afraid to take down Nate, he certainly will be afraid to take down BJ . . . not that he could take down BJ. So that leaves us with a VERY one-sided boxing match between Maynard and BJ. On the other hand you have Edgar. His boxing looks fantastic and always has. BJ likes to stand and so does Edgar. I do think BJ has an edge in the boxing, but I think that Edgar is a close second to him in the division. I honestly rate Edgar's boxing better than Sanchez'. So in my (humble) opinion, Edgar stands the best chance at the moment to give BJ a good fight. Edgar's boxing is good and he has a good chin and good wrestling as well. I really think this will be a good fight for BJ.

I'm also a little confused. I'm assuming they didn't give Maynard a title shot because he said he didn't want it considering he beat Edgar not too long ago. Strange, I remember hearing the same thing from Belfort about fighting Silva and it didn't stop Dana from matching up that fight.

BJ just fought. As much as I love to see him whoop ass, give him some time and let Maynard and Edgar fight it out for the No.1 contender spot.

You just barely out boxed Nate Diaz and were scared of Nate's guard, do you really want to try and boz with BJ or risk a world champion in BJJ's guard?

I gotta agree with Dana - Gray is not ready for BJ. Even Gray himself doesn't seem to be that hungry for the title shot yet. I think if he went in there Monday night and absolutely mauled Diaz then we would be seeing Maynard fighting for the title but that wasn't the case.

Frankie is an awesome fighter and as someone has said, he could surprise us just like he did against Sherk. I think he is deserving of the title shot and will put up a good fight.
