Javier always keeps it real, one of my fav trainers.

He doesnt big up fighters for no reason etc calls Hershel "green" etc and wants his fighters to fight each other. Plus he knows Cain is the best fighter he has

Full quote and mmamania article

Quote:
"I think if the UFC says 'Hey, Jon Fitch, you're the champion and Josh Koscheck is the number one contender,' then this is a business. It's not something I would ever want to happen but if that (scenario) ever happened the world would want to see them fight each other so we would have to separate camps for that particular fight. I'd hate for that to happen but that's reality, if one becomes the champion and another is a contender for that title than obviously it has to happen. I'm open to it. Do I want it to happen? No, but you have to be open to it -- this is a sport."

Quote:
Sounds like the head of American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) is a getting a little softer on his stance about teammates fighting one another -- but the circumstances he presents seem unlikely since both Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck have both battled Georges St. Pierre and have both come up on the wrong end of a unanimous decision. That leaves Mike Swick as the last hope for AKA and welterweight gold -- unless of course Dan Hardy can pull a Matt Serra at UFC 111. Any two guys at AKA that you feel is a "must" see fight?

Thumbs up Fighters

Well when you look at competition in any other type of sport, teammates will face each other, particularly in wresting!

I hate when the fighters say no to team mates. in the nfl, if you got a brother or a friend playing on the other team, will you not hit them ??

How is football, a team sport with pads, comparable in any way to MMA? The goal in football is not to hurt your opponent but it is in MMA. So there's a huge difference.

I don't like the no teammate fighting oaths either but I at least understand where they're coming from.

I really doubt it's even about friendship though. When you train with someone for so long you both can gauge eachothers skill levels pretty well and learn everything they do. So fighters probably don't want to fight their teammate because they know they'll lose. Of course there's always true friendships but when you fight them everyday already in training it shouldn't make a difference doing it in the cage.

sure you got pads in football, but that doesnt mean you dont get hurt, some of the most gruesome injuries happen in the NFL.

there are a lot more injuries in the nfl also, sure the player to fighter ratio is a lot higher, but you hardly ever see a broken bone in the UFC unless the fighter doesnt tap.

by freak injuries, i mean what happen to Corey Hill, that stuff happens in the nfl quiet a bit.

Ouch, I see before me Coreys leg snap like a twig again!

Anyway I'd like to see Swick vs Kos since Kos more or less proclamed Swick to be a nobody when he said Hardy 'hasent fought anyone'.

I understand why teammates don't want to fight each other. Other than the fact that they are friends, it splits the whole camp up. You have to figure out who is sparring with who, which coaches are going to coach who, and who is going to corner who.

Now with that being said, when ou are in a situation where 2 fighters from the camp are at the top of the division, and another is working their way up, they need to fight. The WW division is messed up with Fitch and Koscheck not wanting to fight so what happens if Swick eventually makes it to the top as well? Then we would have 3 top contenders refusing to fight!
