Jon Fitch can't be denied St. Pierre rematch

Jon Fitch:

Quote:
"If I stop [Thiago Alves], I don't see how they could deny me a shot at GSP. At that point I would have stopped someone twice who GSP couldn't finish in five rounds, so I think that's a very strong argument for me to get a title shot. We're both fighting for another crack at GSP, so we both have something big that we want. Mentally, he's matured a great deal in that time period. He was pretty young when we fought.... His wrestling defense is much better and he's harder to take down. He's stronger and I think he's matured physically. Maybe he's a little bit slower. We'll see ... I'm a much better athlete than I was a couple years ago. I'm a much improved fighter from when I first fought, and so is he."

==========================

I'm not a huge fan of Fitch to be honest. I respect him as a fighter but as usual it's a case of GSP being so good that rematches seem pretty useless. He was dominated for 25 minutes against GSP and I don't think he has improved much since that 2008 loss to warrant a rematch.

Also, his three wins since that loss have been decisions and against Mike Pearce he was rocked in the last minute of the fight and lucky to hear the bell at the end.

A fight with Thiago Alves goes a long way to establishing who the number two in the division is, but not much more than that.

The winner of Koscheck vs. Daley has a bigger chance of getting a title shot, imo.

Favourite Fighters:

Dan Hardy
Paul Daley
Georges St-Pierre
Nick Diaz
Cain Velasquez
Frank Mir
Demian Maia
All the British MMA guys
And... Fedor!

I don't think Fitch is going to have to worry about this circumstance.

I do think that Fitch and Alves are the 2 best WW's in the division behind St. Pierre though.

Just worry about finishing anybody, hell doesn't even have to be Alves, try and stop the paper boy even that would be a step in the right direction.

Yeah i dont think Fitch will get this win, BUT if he does i can see him wanting to get GSP next even though Dana is just going to think, HELL NO, he isn't stupid he thinks of what Fitch would do to GSP differently then he did in his last fight, and he will know Nothing... I can see if Fitch destroys Alves that Dana might make the winner of Daley and Kos fight Fitch for the title shot.

But i hope when GSP smashes Hardy that he just moves up and fight freaking Anderson Silva already....

If GSP wants a true legacy then it starts with Anderson Silva, although that Penn fight was a huge statement, Silva has been known as the best P4P next to Fedor for Years now, (Some Websites say Fedor some say Anderson) its all matter of opinion but a win against Silva would put his name with Fedor instead....

Thats something he needs to want, for a guy so into his Legacy and plus Anderson I hear is going to retire from MMA in like 3 fights or something like that.... And so he wants fights like this. ITS TIME BABY!

Just checked Fitch's record, the last time he stopped someone was Roan Carneiro in mid 2007. Since then he's had five decision wins and the loss to GSP.

It's hard to build up steam when you're not finishing people. Ask Gray Maynard.

Gray Maynard is a good name to bring up here. They are both kinda in the same situation right now. Both win there fights in a very unimpressive way. And I doupt anybody of those guys will get a shot at there current champions any time soon. I also believe that no one of there current belt holders will still be in there divisions by the time they get a shot.

Must admit a couple of finishes would help him out more. Tons of respect for the Fitcher but to be in with a chance in beating GSP you have to have more than just heart and toughness because essentially he'll be facing a guy who himself has a heart and determination yet has overwhelming athleticism to compliment it all.
