Arlovski and Sanchez bend the rules?
Hi all this is my first post
I'm just curious if anyone saw what I thought I saw at the last Fight Night Live on Spike, Diago knocked out Riggs with a big knee, Rogon even sputtered something about a knee then changed the subject, and it to me looked like Riggs was down on one knee still getting up, and I felt that's why Rogon changed the subject of that knee so fast, cause Diago can't knee a downed opponent in the head.
Second thing is Arlovski at UFC 66 seemed to be holding the fence very hard with the other hand while repeatedly beating Marcio Cruz with the other, that's how he got so much leverage and Marcio couldn't flip him off to one side. I thought that was illegal?
Anyone else notice this?

Nice first post
To me it looked like both of Riggs' knees were off the mat at the time of the knee (I sound like an NFL official doing a replay) so it was legit. I didn't catch the part where Arlovski was holding the fence, I'll have to check that out again.

if you watch the fight again between diego and riggs you can see that riggs is clearly on two feet at the time he get's kneed, riggs got rocked with a big right from diego and tried to get up too quick and put himself in prefect position for a well timed knee by diego.
as for arlovski holding the fence alot of people have said it's instinctive which doesn't make it right but i think cruz was already rocked hard from the first big right arlovski gave him when they were on there backs and it was only a matter of time untill arlovski finished

Well if you can get away with it and win, then you still win right?
A lot of times in boxing you will see fighters holding and hitting, a classic example is the Lennox Lewis/Mike Tyson fight. Lennox was holding the back of tysons head and then nailing him with hooks and uppercuts. The ref took a point after a few times, but it didn't matter because lennox knew he was going to knock tyson out anyways.
If the UFC reallly cared about fighters holding the fence, then they would penalize them by taking away some of their purse, or deduct a point instead of giving warnings.
Hell, if I was in a fight, and I knew I could hold the fence, land a few good shots and win, I would do it too. Maybe thats just my personality, but I don't see anything wrong with it, and would do it.

Thanks guys! I think you're all right about Riggs, it was really close but I too think he was if barely "up". I also agree Arlovski was probably going to win anyway, just strange to see that at the end of a fight and no mention of it by Rogon and company

Cruz was half dead anyway after AA jawed him. Holding the fence didnt do much as Cruz wasnt doing anything anyway. AA showed total domination and the fight wouldnt have gone any longer regardless.
As for Diego, I dont like him, so my view on the knee may be partially biased the other way, although I've only seen it once and it was the night it happened.

I think the rules say a downed oppponent is all four points on the ground (but I'm not 100% sure.) Riggs was definitely up.
Arlovski holding the fence was "Cheating" if you will, but Cruz was indeed clinically dead from the loaded right hand Arlovski waited on Herb Dean to let him throw (*which was f'ing hilarious.)
Now for holding the fence in terms of blatant illegal use of it, would be Florian against Sherk where Kenny held on for dear life. Luckily Sherk still got him down. Or the fight with Sylvia where he held on the fence to avoid getting slammed.
Holding on to the fence while GnP isn't a huge deal, Cruz was never rolling out of that and the ref has his eyes on the fighter to make sure he's alive, not the fence. But usign the fence to avoid getting slammed on your ass, that's a little lame. They should have 10000V on that fence when you grab it, you'll learn.
