Shogun vs. Anderson Silva - who would you pick?

This is my dream fight. If Shogun beats Machida in the rematch (not sure who will win, huge fan of both guys), and Anderson beats Vitor which I predict though, it is not a given, this is the biggest fight I would want to see. Anderson is aging. He is 35/36 yrs of age. Jones Jr got ktfo at this age twice back to back. I think once Anderson loses, he will fall off entirely. I hope he retires undefeated but, I am looking to enjoy as many big fights as possible while he is around.

I think Anderson owns the stand up though, Shogun has awesome stand up as well as great unorthodox striking as we seen in the Machida fight. Nobody expected the fight to go the way it did on Oct 24th. I am huge fan of Shogun dating back to his early pride days, winning the grand prix. In my opinion, I think Shogun is finally free of injuries and back in top form. I think Machida underestimated Shogun in the first fight not to take anything away as well as, Shogun was completely ready for the fight. I saw Machida's father in a sherdog article suggesting that the Shogun fight would be "easier" then the Evans fight. I worried for Machida's long term health after hearing that. I have no clue what the rematch will hold. Honestly, it could have gone any way. That is another topic all together.

As for Anderson/Shogun - I think this would be amazing. I think both guys are aggressive. Shogun seems to be in a new mind set. Instead of being wild andf wreckless like Wanderlei (no disrespect - ruthless aggression can work - Check Prime Wandy - just illustrating the lack there of safety), Shogun showed us a new dimension of strategegy, methodical tactics, injury free, and quite possibly, the best SHogun this world has ever seen. If Leites can take Anderson down, Shogun could very well. I would hate to be the call of this fight. ANderson has an awesome chin, underrated bjj, though I would heavily edge Shogun, I think the striking would favor Anderson but, crazier things have happened. Anderson and SHogun both have good chins. I've never seen Anderson rocked though, I've seen Shogun rocked in the Lil Nog fight. Not to say he was close to being finished, hurt though. I think both guys aren't likely to be one punched less hit by Jackson flush. More or less, both guys would need a rally of strikers.

With Anderson on the decline (i think he is decling as we speak even if it hasn't been noticed despite the Forrest fight), I predict him beating Vitor still though, a lack of reflects could cause problems in timing. Check Jones Jr/Tarver II for an example. I can't seem to bet against Silva though, I think Shogun would get the sub. Thoughts guys?

New to the forum boys. No fighting guys. Great fighters. Love to hear your thoughts. My bad if it has been discussed before or recently. Cheers!

The real winner of this fight would be the fans.

With that said I have no idea who I would take to win this fight. Both guys are monsters in the cage.

And while I have no clue who would win the fight i would love love love to see this fight happen.

I would like to see Shogun beat Machida, Anderson Silva, and then Lil Nog as I am not a fan of Blackhouse.

Congratulations you won!

is this a serious question, Anderson Silva would destroy him easily just like everyone else that he fights.

Would Shogun drop to middleweight if he loses twice to Machida?

What makes you think Rua and Silva will fight when they both hold titles in different divisions. Makes no sense. One fighter would have to switch divisions, and if that is going to happen I'd much rather see GSP-Silva. Shogun is good, but not up with the best p4p fighters anymore.

Umm, what? You do realise Anderson switches between 185 and 205 yes? If Machida/Nog weren't title contenders there he'd probably title hunt at 205 also.

Which p4p fighter isn't he up there with exactly? He looked incredible against Chuck and Lyoto, and if he returns and beats Lyoto handily he'll definitely be in alot of peoples top 5 p4p lists and would give any top LHW in the world a huge run for their money.

Agreed but Anderson??? I wouldn't be putting money and Shogun against Anderson.... For the Obvious reasons....

For one, Shogun lost to Forrest, and we all saw what Anderson did there.....

Shogun almost lost to Coleman, and i dont see any part of Andersons Career and Coleman would last the first round... And Shogun was losing to Liddell till he caught him... Anderson would make Liddell look like a joke...

I know styles makes fights, but how Shogun handled Forrest and how Anderson handled him shows a lot of what would happen if they ever fight.... And WHEN Machida beats Shogun, i can see Anderson popping up in LHW and i think we will see this fight in the future

And why are people talking about how Anderson wouldn't fight him if he beats Machida because he is a champ??

People been talking about Anderson holding 2 belts, but cant because he is friends with Lyoto... If Shogun beats Lyoto i can see Anderson killing him. I don't know what would happen if Anderson has the belt and Machida wants it again if he loses....

But just because Shogun gets through Liddell which a lot have recently and barley gets through Coleman, THEN puts on a hell of a fight with Lyoto, doesn't make him this top p4p fighter imo, unless he can finish Lyoto, and Defend the title, then we can start talking about him getting even in the same building as Anderson imo....

Shogun without Pride soccer kicks and rules, i haven't seen the same Shogun in UFC.... And i see Machida answering these questions for us

Sig credit to my Homie! limba!
