As we reported on Tuesday, Martin Kampmann was forced to withdraw from his matchup with Ben Saunders scheduled for UFC 111 on March 27 in Neward due to a cut over his eye. Though previous reports confirmed it was suffered in training and required stitches, Kampman today posted a picture of the gash on Twitter and it is nasty.
100% agreed. They have elbow pads if you're training elbows in live sparring, shinguards to train headkicks... there's no reason for fighters to sustain SO many serious injuries like this.
it would be one to be pround of during a fight as it makes a nice battle scar but traininng? But i guess you could say training is a bigger battle than the fight itself.
Man, that sucks. To be out for an injury that was PROBABLY completely avoidable. I understadn training hard, but there are really only so many ways to get a cut like that, most of which can be avoided with pads.
Hope it heals up quick so he can get back to fighting. That thing is nasty!
:thumbsdown:you just ruined my lunch with that pic could you please put stuff like that in spoilers so im not in mid chew when the pic loads?
edit-no excuse for getting cut like that in training, did he fall on the edge of a knife of something? come on Kampmann that is one of the worst injuries to pull out of a fight with.
That sucks that he is out and I agree that it is poor training that leads to that. I wonder who will step in to face Saunders now. I was kinda looking forward to Saunders/Kampmann.
That looks like a steak I have sitting in my fridge. That type of cut is gonna be a real pain in his future. Lets hope he has a good doc to get it closed up and strong again.
that is a crazy cut, the eybrow is cut up thats pretty nasty.
