An Englishmans View On Michael Bisping

I started watching UFC at UFC 66 when Bisping beat Schafer. Bisping was then the only brit fighting in the UFC and he was the man.. He then went on to beat Sinosic, Hammill, McCarthy, Day, Leben and Kang, with loses to Evans and Henderson.

I have now come to the conclusion that Bisping just isnt good enough for the top contenders in the division. His 3 loses are against top contenders, Evans, Henderson and Silva, his biggest wins have come against a poor Dennis Kang and a dodgy decision against Hammil. He doesnt have knock out power, he doesnt have a great submission game, i really cant see how he is ever going to beat a top contender?

The cycle is just going to keep repeating itself for Michael. He beats an average fighter, Joe Rogan calls it the best fight of Bispings career, he then goes on to fight a top 10 fighter and loses. Cycle starts all over again.

When i watch fighters like Dan Hardy and Paul Daley i have confidence in them, and really believe they can win their fights (maybe not Hardy v GSP tho). With Bisping i now just watch and prey he makes it through each round.

Im not just saying this because of his loss last night, because i actually thought it was a very close fight, but not once did i think he was ever going to finish the fight, my only hope for him was a decision.

I just had to get the above off my chest.. In every Bisping fight prior to last night i have been right behind him, cheering him on and celebrating his wins, and have been gutted when he lost.. Last night i wasnt bothered..

I know their is alot of hate for Bisping, and alot of people will say i told you so, but i am english, and have been a big fan of Bisping, but i am now tired of him. Hardy, Daley, Etim and Pearson are much better prospects for us brits now.

Definitely man. That makes total sense.

Hardy, Daley, and ESPECIALLY Etim, are all red hot. Pearson surprized a lot of people in his last fight as well.

I'm a big fan of Etim and Hardy and I usually am confident they will win. (Doesn't count in the GSP fight. Although I think he will be tougher than Thiago.)

Rep.

There are reasons why the UFC is pushing Bisping so heavily though. He's a key piece of the UFC's efforts to expand it's markets overseas, especially in English speaking countries.

Unfortunately, the UFC's tossing him recycled cans to dispose of has only fed into what was an apparently humungous ego to begin with.

To maintain some semblance of credibility, Bisping does have to fight an occasional contender, and he is getting exposed badly in the process.

I'm still stunned by his ability to hang in there with top level contenders, but I suppose it's largely a result of his back-back-back-back footwork rather than as a result of any outstanding skills.

I know the UFC is desperate to find an outstanding English fighter and Bisping's push will end soon enough when that happens.

Don't forget Andre Winner he could be a force with more experience and an improved ground game.

You know it's refreshing to see someone with unbiased views. You're spot on with him. I've always said that he's a solid fighter, but not championship caliber...nonetheless entertaining. He probably is one of the newer pioneers of Englishman in the UFC so he's able to pave the way for others to come on board. Can't hate him or dislike him.

In any case it's great to see more of an Int'l level of competition and that's the end goal of the UFC.

Yes, I'm very impressed with both Winner and Etim. Hoping alot for these fighters.

I've not completely given up hope on Bisping yet though. I think he has the potential to turn around and become a competitive fighter again! Maybie my hopes will lead to another dissapointment, but so what? If you don't lay your heart out there with the fighters you will never truly enjoy the victories!

Every time a Swedish fighter wins I scream out loud while smashing fists in the table uncontrolled for about 30 seconds untill I run out of air lol! I just go crazy, but in every Swedish deafeat I feel bad about it for weeks!

I've never been that into Bisping. I liked him on TUF but then he soon showed himself to have more mouth than he could really back up. It was obvious from the Hammill fight that Bisping wasn't what him and the UFC were building an image of outside the octagon.

As for Hardy and Daley both arrogant (Daley obviously more so) but good fighters. I think Hardy is overrated by many, but he's still good. Both are quite one dimensional though.

I prefer the attitudes of Pearson, Winner and Etim, who at this stage seem humble compared to the other 3. At least Daley can back his mouth up though, Bisping has just made himself look stupid with all his talk over the years. I also think Hardy talks too much when he hasn't been all that convincing against mid tier fighters. In fact I'd say Alves, Thiago, Kos, Fitch, Hughes, Serra would all beat Hardy and some would beat Daley as well.

I like watching Daley especially fight, but I'm no fan of any of the top 3 Brits regardless of them being from the same country as me. I'm not one for being too patriotic in MMA, although if we get a top Brit who's head isn't up his own ass then I'll probably back them all the way.

I guess I don’t really relate as many of my favorite fighters are not even from my home country (and I’m very patriotic and my political leanings are more conservative/libertarian).

Bisping not being a top 5 fighter doesn’t really reflect on his home country nor does having a belt holder from your nation really say anything.
Bisping is still a very solid fighter who has very well rounded skills, nothing to be personally ashamed of.

I'm impressed that there hasn't been any mindless Bisping hate yet.

He is one of my favourite fighters, he comes across just fine to me, i don't see him as being too arrogant, i see him more as a fighter who believes in himself.
Unfortunatly i will have to agree wih you though, i can never see him holding the belt or even getting a shot at it!
