Ben Rothwell still want's Cro Cop. UFC 115

Quote:
Ben Rothwell remains in Australia as he recovers from an illness that forced his withdrawal from a UFC 110 main-card bout this past weekend in Sydney.

Duke Roufus, owner of the Milwaukee, Wis.-based Duke Roufus MMA and one of Rothwell's chief trainers, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that his fighter was diagnosed with a case of "traveler's flu" that made him unable to fight Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in the opening bout on the Feb. 20 pay-per-view card.

However, Roufus remains optimistic that Rothwell (30-7 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will get his shot at "Cro Cop" (26-7-2 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and hopes that UFC 115, the promotion's first trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, will play host.

Roufus said Rothwell suffered from severe digestive problems not long after he arrived in Sydney.

"It was a really bad virus," Roufus said. "He got really sick and lost a lot of weight and hadn't eaten for 48 hours."

Rothwell twice went to a local doctor, who ruled it was not a food-borne illness. Just two days before UFC 110, UFC officials pulled the plug on the bout when it became clear Rothwell was in no condition to fight. (Filipovic instead fought – and defeated – late replacement Anthony Perosh.)

"He was still pretty crappy when I left," Roufus said.

According to Dr. Johnny Benjamin, MMAjunkie.com's medical consultant, Rothwell's illness could have been acquired on his trip to Australia.

"[Traveler's flu] may be a lay term for an upper respiratory tract infection that a person acquires while traveling commonly in confined spaces like airplanes," he said via email on Monday.

If there is a silver lining to the situation it's that the UFC isn't scrapping the bout. In a post-UFC 110 press conference, UFC president Dana White acknowledged Rothwell had been suffering from stomach flu and plans to rebook the fight at a later date.

"Hopefully we can make this fight quick and put this one together soon," White said.

Roufus said that while most of the upcoming UFC fight cards are filled, UFC 115, which is set for June 12 at GM Place, is something the Rothwell camp is open to.

"There will be time to get ready by then," he said.
This is great news for me since I plan on going to this event live. Maybe I will actually get the chance to meet the Legend in person?? Man that would be awesome.

I think this fight is still an evenly matched contest and should happen.

"Traveler's flu"

Is that what it's called when you get your a$$ handed to you and need to back out of a fight with a legend who absolutely must win his next fight?

June!? Crocop didn't even get punched and all Rothwell had was a flu and they'd wait 3 and a half months to put the fight together? That's nuts.

Every other card is already established. Vancouver still needs more fights.

lol that no movement fool that showed up at 110 would have got tore up from the floor up by Big Ben.

CroCop fans should be asking for the Nog fight. You dont want Ben, believe me. Ben will go to war and CroCop doesnt look mentally strong enough for that these days. Thats why Ben was harder to finish then Nog for Cain. Ben is just a really tough, really big, monster. You are gonna see. AA struggled to finish him and Country couldnt own him on the ground.... not an easy fight for CC at all.

BigBen is as slow as a donkey... it doesnt matter what bigben might or wont do, anyone MMA fan would rather see CroCop vs Big Nog anyway...

You could be right but I think this fight is a perfect way to gauge where Cro Cop is at as a fighter. I really think its premature to come to any conclusions about Cro Cop after his last fight. I mean, its hard to look impressive in a fight like that. I think we would have learned far more about Cro Cop in defeat at 110 than we would have in his victory.

Wishful thinking, Cro Cop got a confidence boost and looks much more impressive against Big Ben. Realistically, I think Ben has a better chance of taking this. I see this being a good fight and I will blindly support Mirko in (almost) any fight.

i thought the JDS fight was supposed to do just that?? If he cant beat JDS he will never be in title contention again IMO

if he beats Big Ben somehow, then what?? Do you really think he has another title run left?? If so, i admire your loyalty to Mirko. I just think you may be wearing rose colored glasses.

I personally just want fun fights for Mirko from here on out. Nog, Kimbo and then maybe a couple up and comers, let him give some hype to Duffee or something.

JMO of course. I like Mirko. He is a respectful, classy guy. I just fear he lost the fire along time ago.
