UFCThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is a U.S.-based mixed martial arts organization, recognized as the largest MMA promotion in the world. The UFC is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada and is owned and operated by Zuffa, LLC. This promotion is responsible for solidifying the sport's postion in the history-books.
UFC is currently undergoing a remarkable surge in popularity, along with greater mainstream media coverage. UFC programming can now be seen on Spike TV in the United States, as well as in 35 other countries worldwide.
Saturday night (Sunday afternoon in Australia) was a coming out party of sorts for undefeated heavyweight Cain Velasquez. At UFC 110, Cain put his striking on display becoming just the second fighter to stop PrideFC and UFC legend Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. Cain knocked Nogueira out at the 2:20 mark of the very first round.
If you’re a hard core fan of MMA, you probably already know who Cain Velasquez is. However, if you’re just a casual follower of the sport, you might want to take note because Cain undoubtedly has the talent to become a future champion in the revitalized UFC heavyweight division. Cain brings a rare combination of speed, strength and dedication.
Cain’s work ethic most likely formed during his days as an amateur wrestler, which time and time again has proven to be the best base to come from when entering the sport of MMA. Velasquez was a two-time All-American collegiate wrestler at Arizona State in addition to winning a National Junior College title at Iowa Central Community College. Cain is also a former two-time Arizona 5A state high school wrestling champion.
Velasquez has been able to transition the work ethic he learned as a wrestler into his mix martial arts career. Cain has earned his Brazilian Jiu-jitsu purple belt under respected BJJ player Dave Camarillo. He also brings to the table an ever improving striking game as evidenced by his first round KO of Nogueira. Another thing Cain brought with him from wrestling is a winning attitude.
Cain has won his first eight mix martial arts bouts in devastating fashion. In those first eight fights, only one has gone to a decision and all but three opponents didn’t make it out of the first round. In addition to defeating the only man to hold the heavyweight strap in both PrideFC and the UFC this past weekend, Cain’s other notable wins come in the form of French kickboxer and fellow top contender Cheick Kongo as well as the former champion of the now defunct IFL, Ben Rothwell.
Don’t expect Cain to brag about his accomplishments though. Outside of the ring Velasquez is a quiet mild mannered giant. Cain refused to engage in frivolous trash talking even when Ben Rothwell repeatedly antagonized him in the lead up to their fight. Velasquez instead put his nose to the grindstone and let his fists do his talking.
However, Cain is more than just a fighter. Cain Velasquez was born in Southern California, but is very proud of his Mexican heritage. Nowhere is this more evident than on a large chest tattoo that reads, BROWN PRIDE. Cain speaks both English and Spanish fluently. And in May of last year Cain and his girlfriend had a daughter named Coral Love Velasquez. He credits his parents as being his heroes. As a young boy his father trained him to be a boxer, and in another generation he might have followed that path.
So, what’s next for Cain? Before we know that we need to wait for the results of next month’s interim title clash between Frank Mir and Shane Carwinat UFC 111. The winner of that matchup is tentatively scheduled to face returning champ Brock Lesnar in July. However, Dana White, the president of the UFC, has stated that if that winner is unable to compete because of injury, Velasquez would fill in for Lesnar’s comeback fight. Otherwise, Cain will likely have to wait until the end of the year for his title shot.
...Cain without a doubt closed any doubters minds after he demolished Nogueria with stunning ease. I still think he's in the top 4 HW's in the UFC. I don't think he's #1 yet. It's still a very tight mix with Dos Santos, Carwin & Mir. I REALLY hope Joe Silva finds a home for JDS vs. Cain. I think that would be one of the top HW fights ever. The final match-ups are closing in. I think Carwin will TKO or KO Mir and Gonzaga will get blown apart by Dos Santos. I think JDS or Carwin vs. Cain would be a #1 contender dream fight...
Great read man, +rep for the find. I know Cain opened my eyes in that fight - he really dominated Nog, and I believe this is only the beginning of his path of destruction. Do I think he's ready for Brock next? No. I think he needs one more fight before he fights for the belt, and I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen. Cain v JDS is the fight I wanna see Cain in.

Thanks for the love. I actually wrote the article. http://www.csn365.com is my site that I started at the beginning of the month. Check out the other articles. My real job should be slow next month so hopefully I will be able to post new articles more frequently.
I think Cain is a top contender, but he's done nothing any different the many other UFC HW fighters. He demolished one of the old guard. It's just like what Mir did with Nog, just like what JDS did with Mirko, just like what Kongo did with Mirko, just like what Lesner did with HH and couture, and just like what all these guys would do with Fedor (yeah, I went there).
So now we'll see whose the new best HW. It may be Cain. It may be JDS. It may be Carwin. It may be Lesnar. Can't wait to find out.
Ive never heard Cain talking much about his parents. I didn't know his father trained him in boxing. I was wondering how he got his striking so crisp in such a relatively small space of time considering how much time he must have spent wrestling. His Pops planted those seeds early on. Good man!
Also would like to point out that Cain is what I consider genuinely humble. He so rarely talks about his parents or any of their hardships. Unlike the other type of humble : Shane Carwin. Who cant wait for any opportunity to use brag about how awesome his mom is and how humble she bought them up. *barf*
oh great another article on cain valasquez
not that it isn't a good article, it's just that you are giving more material for alizio to furiously masterbate over

This always makes me lol a bit ... like how no one's ready for a guy who has probably half the MMA experience they do. And like Brock was "ready" for the title fight with Couture after a 2-1 MMA record.
Cain's as ready now as he ever will be... both are getting better at the same pace, it's not like Brock's gonna sit around eating McDonalds while Cain catches up.
I think all the top guns like Cain, Dos Santos and Carwin are more than ready for Brock. The only question is if they'll match up to his size, speed and wrestling, and who deserves the first shot.

Very true, the longer Cain waits the more complete Brocks game gets...
Thats why i said it was foolish for Fedor to not except that Brock fight while Brock was still a MMA baby...
I know Fedor would of killed Brock, and now im not so sure, and Brock isn't complete yet, and is still in his extreme growing stage where Fedor is past that and is almost at his full potential imo
