Sam thing I said. The reason he could beat Nate is because he'd been fighting consistently and staying at the peak of his game. If he isn't fighting until december/next year it's going to add a little rust and ever a little rust against Silva OR Maia can make your hopes go up in flames.

Why do people keep saying he prob wont fight till december? Barring injury Anderson is always active and I expect Maia would be too. Sonnen could fight the winner of this fight as soon as July but most certainly by August. As long as he keeps training he should be fine.
Anderson usually fights like twice a year, at leas tin his weight class. If Maia wins (big IF) I can see them fighting in august or september. If Andy wins, I don't see this fight being on until november/december.
Man, the middleweight division is terrible... I'm not saying maia/Sonnen etc are terrible fighters, but if they're number one contenders for the belt... yikes.
I think no one in the middle weight division is ready for a title shot, not even Dan Henderson, the only one however who would wold have had the best chance against Silva was Vito Belfort, just like Rua was to Machida.
you think so bobby? chael isn't really a finisher from what iv'e seen. hes got good takedowns and control but that wont be enough against silva. if you get him in a bad spot you have to finish or else he will make you pay like he did vs lutter/hendo.
if anything chael will need some improved standup so that he can survive the first seconds of each round in order to take him down. I still think hendo was the guy with the best chance to take silva but thats just me
Yes Hendo was also by far my favourite to challenge silva, because of his Wrestling background. But now here we go another light with Sonnen^^
I mean I was blown away by his recent performance's, this guy has something many many others are missing badly, wich is heart in my mind. Even Hendo doesn't have this anymore!
And Chael seems to have a tremdous chin as well. Nate cought him with some brutal knees when he was shooting for the TD. If he can take those from Nate, than he can also take a knee from Anderson.
Silva always has the submission in his arsenal, even from the bottom. Chael needs to keep working on his sub defense, than I can see him grinding out a decision or even a TKO victory.
But it can also be over very quickly for him certainly.
He really should have got the shot before Maia. I'm sure he'll keep busy in the layoff though, after all the sh*t he's talked about Anderson he really better live at the gym.
Sonnen gets beat either way. Maia has and always will beat him because Sonnen's submission defense isn't good and Maia is a submission master. Silva doesn't lose to anyone, especially Sonnen. Sonnen won't be able to use his weak GnP or Lay n Pray against Silva. Because unlike Marquardt, Silva is dangerous off of his back. Sonnen should know that and that would mean he would aim to take him down and forget about ground and pound and just dry hump Anderson into the mat. Granted, Sonnen has 0 chance of using LnP or weak GnP against Silva because he would have his head split open before he had a chance to complete a double leg, so the point is moot. Sonnen/Silva ends Silva by decapitation (if we are lucky to be rid of Sonnen's douchebaggery)
If Silva comes away from Maia with a win and relatively unscathed ( highly likely as Maia isnt exactly a power puncher ) there is no way the next fight will be as late a December. Why should it? Especially if he dispatches Maia in round 1!? He's getting old and wants lots of fights. Why would he wait 6 months? Hes only just back from surgery. Probably gagging to fight!
So hope Anderson gets to kick Chael's ass after all the shit Chael's been coming out with. Anderson is no fool, moving round the weight classes and making it look easy to beat up world class opponents.
Nobody is saying Anderson sucks on the ground. Even calling it a "weakness" is kinda innacurate, I think. It is the area where he seems the most vulnerable, in an all around fantaastic set of skills. He's not the best in the world in every skill.
He's human, he's beatable. If it's going to happen, where is it going to happen? Probably with him on his back.
I actually believe, that the Guard is dead in MMA! But against Sonnen (who refused to train in BJJ) and somebody like Silva under him, it's very very likely that he could pull of a submission from his back.
